Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

We may survive these layoffs but there will always bee a next round

I feel for the people that got hit by this wave of layoffs, but even the ones that survived have an excellent opportunity to see the manner in which the company is doing this and act. As they don’t care about these people they won't care about you when the next wave hits. Think that all of us need to rethink our future and start looking for other jobs or maybe even explore the possibility of another carrier. The company is changing and there will be other layoffs soon enough, why give them the satisfaction?

Darn right there will be more layoffs in the future. Whoever said this new all electric vehicle strategy will succeed?

For a long time GM IT has been over staffed. Some people who were hired during the staffing frenzy of 2013-2015 have hidden out at the innovation centers doing almost nothing and collecting a paycheck for it. Turnover has been an unhealthy 2%, all the while the hiring continued. With the divestitures of Opel/Vauxhall, the India and South America markets, you would've thought there would be a reduction in workforce but there hadn't been. At least management is doing this at a time when opportunities are available (at least in IT). Yeah if I get laid off it will s---, but it's not my first time in this particular rodeo. The one positive I see is that those who do survive the layoff should be confident that it's not going to happen over and over again like it does at IBM or AT&T or other big companies. Last time GM had a big layoff was during the bankruptcy in 2009. I'll take 10 years of job security any day.

A wise coworker of mine once gave me some sound advice. The grass may look greener on the other side, but all corporation companies are the same to work for. Every company has BS politics. But, GM does have phenomenal benefits.
