Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Seasonal hires

How is it going at your store with the seasonal hires?

We were told our store “needs to” hire 26 seasonal associates. After three “hiring events” we have hired 2 young men for OSLG and 5 older (grandpa) men to work in other departments.

We have our hopes up that two more “hiring events” scheduled for later in March will yield us some more help especially on the front end, otherwise it will be “code 3, code 3 to the front end” all day.

God bless the 100 days of opportunity!

At my store I don’t think there is a single manager above the age of 40. Many are first time managers and it shows; they don’t know how to lead and they don’t know the product. And they make no effort to learn what they are selling. Regular customers have told me that the new department supervisors ask them for advice when helping other customers.

Calling people names that are meant to discriminate based on age, s-x, race, gender identity, s-xual preference, etc. is a violation of HR and could result in you being terminated.

Only call someone grandpa or grandma if they are your grandparents. Learn manners.

I spent a hour trying to teach a new/seasonal cashier how to calculate a % off for an item. I told them to take the cost of the item and multiply it by .9 for 10% off, .8 for 20% off, .7 for 30% off, and .6 for 40% off. I then asked him what it would be for 50% off. He yawned and looked away and said "I have no idea". I fear for these 100 days of hell !!!

I thought basic math was taught in school?????

What if they really are a grandpa? Then there is no disrespect.

I call them like I see them.

Calling older people "grandpa" is derogatory and discriminatory and disrespectful. How would you like being called "boy" or "little boy". Secondly, it is the older workers often that can actually pass the d--g test and who are willing to put up with the Lowes bull for a few hours a week. Most people need more than a token fifteen hours a week, etc. No one wants to work at Lowes because they know it is a sweat shop. If they do decide to work at Lowes then they find out that they are treated like dirt so they just don't show back up eventually or quit. People also think Lowes is going to go bankrupt because of the other stores closing, etc.

It’s pathetic!!!

We have no help on the floor of our store. No one to unload the trucks and put freight away.

All of these managers we now have are no where to be found. The woman who was hired to be our HR wannabe is now on a cash register!

Ellison is running the company straight into the toilet!!!

It’s the same thing every year. We are short staffed, they tell us “Help is on the way!” that they are going to hire 30 seasonal. Then they only hire about 10, and 7 leave within the first 3 months. Mainly because the new hires focus on the part that they will be scheduled for “up to 39 hours a week”, then only get scheduled for 10-15 hours a week. I never see any difference in coverage. It seems like they end up just spreading the man hours over more employees.
