Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Major layoff occurring on 3/1/19

Document found:

“It has become necessary for us to announce a temporary layoff of some of our enrollment staff. Demand for our services has slowed. Beginning March 1st, the enrollment department will be going through the process of eliminating roughly 30% of our staff. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of all our employees, and regret this business decision that had to be made.”

They need to take a serious look at academic leadership. Talk is just talking to buy employment time. Most of them lack basic leadership skills, not to mention hard skills.

I don’t think any enrollment were let go. Not that I know of. Mostly support staff for campuses and faculty.

Now if only they would get rid of upper management that are dead weight with high salaries. So like 99% of upper management.

Did they lay off a third of enrollment? Was it temporary or volunteer?

For the last two to three years upper management has targeted staff who have been with the university the longest( making more $$), who question their ethics ( meaning these 'decision' makers are requesting staff to handle daily tasks unethically per their demands), or are close to what they believe is retirement age!!! In the last 6 months many of them have been made VPs! Sure makes their resumes look better, right??

Maybe if they gave us better incentives and targeted the slackers. Lately the only people punished are the top performers. They have things backwards. How they make the changes we need and from the dead weight.

Why are they hiring in enrollment then? Interviews this week.

Lowering the standards by only requiring a HS diploma, not a degree for the incoming new hires.

Get your popcorn ready! This is going to be fun to watch

I heard that there is just a shortage of work, so they are going to re-evaluate business need during this “temporary” layoff. A temporary layoff allows them to avoid severance or termination costs as long as we are recalled to work within 13 weeks of the layoff's commencement. Hope everyone has 3 months of savings set aside.....if not, I’m guessing it’s back to the drawing board. Who has the ability to sit around “temporarily” and wait to see what happens??

What does “temporary lay-off” mean in the letter? Why would it state “temporary” and then go on to say “30% reduction” ???

they have millions of leads through marketing divided by leads that get on the phone divided by the leads that start class divided by the leads that complete 1 class. less than 1 percent of the millions of leads every month convert to starting class or finish the first class. money wasted on marketing is a facade to preserve the brand. they only hire new people to replace the people that have left. if they are hiring 1 person to every 3 people that leave the workload cannot handle the volume of leads that disappear. university of phoenix stadium is now state farm stadium. they will continue to cut until 1 rep can consistently enroll 4 or 5 students but by then it won't really matter because nobody will be in the building.

If the letter is true... then why the lad test communication on changes and potential hiring of new employees. There are many questions about the direction and reasoning of the leadership that are still here. Why has leadership been replace to get new ideas and fix all the internal issues we have?

If this document is accurate then it begs the question whether UOP has now surrendered? UOP cannot grow or even stabilize without more new students. Enrollment staffing is critical and essential to that outcome. It seems obvious to me that this is tantamount to "throwing in the towel." I am sure it will be perceived that way by remaining employees and the market.

Ouch. If true, this confirms the plummet the institution has been and continues to experience; however the drastic cut of 30% indicates the plummet has accelerated and there is little evidence a temporary resuscitation is on the horizon. Time to sell while there are still viable assets.
