Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

My last day will be April 20th. Training my replacements until then.

Just found out. Not many more details yet. I'm in IT in Plano, our whole organization is moving to managed services.

To the folks losing their jobs in IT at the Plano, TX, can anyone confirm that American IT workers are being replaced by cheaper H-1B visa workers from India? Who are the replacements being trained and why do you need replacements?

So, what keeps you from doing a poor job of training your replacement (ie; like saying to them - "so what do you want to learn and then just sitting there"?)?

Hi @vuc I am @azx - that's some good advice - it's appreciated. We have been blessed as a family and we are not under a lot of financial stress due to luck and some family things. Nonetheless, the entire family rallied and is trying to help my dad with re-establishing his sense of self-worth and purpose - he was fully invested in the company and his job and being let go crushed all of this. I am sure he'll pull through this but scars will remain. Again, thanks all for the kind words and sharing experiences.

OK @1yjp honestly that's what pisses me off the most - how low

I trained my replacement too. It's an inhumane thing to ask of a 20+ year veteran.

XIHN4J0-azx - What you can do is try to find a part time job, and maybe pick up a bill. When I got laid of my daughters did this. It really helped a lot. They were small bills [Cable, phone..], but that gave me courage to go on. Knowing that I am not alone.

Things are good in Plano. Many companies are hiring. My advise to your dad, is to find a job, and jump ship right away. Unless your dad is going to be bridged in, there is no reason to stick around. I stuck around to train my replacements out of loyalty. I was lucky enough to find a job after several months, but as a result most of my severance was lost to taxes.

Some of my friends turned down jobs, because they wanted the severance, then had a hard time getting jobs. We all found better jobs in the end. It's easier to get a job, when you have a job. I'm sure he will find something before April. Many employers realize that Pepsi hires great talent. Good luck.

If I ever had to train my replacement, it would be amazing how much they didn't know when I was through.

My dad is in IT in Plano, he's given the same last day.

He's devastated we are trying to help but he's been hit really hard with all of this.

Anyhow, good luck to all and I hope each of you finds a good job replacement soon.
