Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

The employees are stressed out to a level that no work is being done

I sure hope that the people working at the plants didn’t take this news that the layoffs are going to be stretched to a two week period the same way we office workers did cause that would mean that cars are going out of the factories at a much slower pace. The folks at the office at my location are stressed out to a degree that they stopped showing interest for work and are just counting the days for the two weeks to expire so they can know their faith. They seem to be ( I’m not excluding myself) in a state of some sort of collective hypnosis that was triggered by this announcement. No work gets done and we have a ton piled up already, given that we are understaffed as it is. Is this happening at other locations as well?

They put the fear of layoff into everyone, so yes work is now getting done. Doesn't prevent anyone from shopping around their resume though. This abomination will take some time to get over.

I’ve been experiencing great cooperation amongst my coworkers. Yes there is stress and yes there is a lot of pressure to perform and yes even after the two weeks has passed doesn’t mean this won’t happen again later this year or next year or the year after that.

Apply yourself to meaningful tasks and go to bed each night knowing you did your best and earned your pay. Then get up the next day and do it all over again. It’s called work.

I haven't seen that happening in my area. People are upset about the lay-offs and stressed, but I haven't seen anyone slacking. Work is getting done.
