If you can keep your connection intact, you can still get vested. Call the US Railroad Retirement Board at (877) 772-5772 or go to RRB.gov
If you go to work for another road (or FRA or even TSA) you can keep your connection going until you best. And federal jobs have good benefits. And short line jobs are WAY less stress.
I was offered a 6-figure starting salary for a position in IT a couple months ago. Funny how the stability of a 150 year-old company played so much in my decision to turn it down.
The only safe job at UP is member of the board of directors....
Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Even if you signed away your rights to sue and have facts to back up why you should have stayed over someone else and think it had something to do with cheating you out of your pension I would look into it.
Yep - two months short of qualifying for Railroad Retirement and they laid me off. Also, notice other posts about UP offering lump-sum pension payouts to others laid off. Notice the trend?
Well there are tons of Java jobs around Omaha.
Apparently there is a law to protect people from being cheating from their pension. Hopefully you didn't sign anything and look into it. I'm in the same boat and was worried they would fire me before I can vest and did research beforehand
Another post said Gallup is looking for UP IT people.
I was at 4.5 years and walked out today. Me thinks they don’t want to pay us pensions.
