Shame on the Previous Executive Leadership that Created a Top Heavy Unsustainable Organization

Shame on the Previous Executive Leadership that Created a Top Heavy Unsustainable Organization.

FACTS. We had some divisions where one person would report to a Supervisor who reported to a Manager who reported to a Director who reported to a Sr. Director who reported to a Vice President who reported to a Sr. VP who ten reported to an EVP. You do the math. The mission of the company is to use premiums to pay for members healthcare, not a org structure that financially would have been a long term burden to support. Flip side keep the structure and raise premiums. What makes sense to you? Take the emotion out. Would an org structure like that work for you if you owned a business? CareFirst is a business and businesses have to make hard decisions to financially survive in this marketplave.

So - have you looked at most of CareFirst - not the IT part - clearly there isn't much left. Have you met process outsourcing that is coming this fall?

Anyway - if you work in "the business" - well then you have exactly what you say - a big VP to a baby VP to another smaller VP to a director, to a lesser director, to a manager and so on.

What a joke. Hire more consultants.

Someone posted “Those making noise and a fuss about this are precisely the ones who need to go. Those who are flexible, have a positive attitude, can adapt, and roll with the change will be fine.”

You may well be next. Your flexible, positive attitude won’t mean a damn thing except perhaps help you at your next job when you are shown the door. Stop living in Fantasyland.

Puhleeze...This top heaviness is not across the environment. Sure, pockets existed, but I saw a lot of good, dedicated people downsized only to look around at the aftermath and wonder why a lot of dead wood and non-contributors still remain. Also the PCMH program that was heralded as a success improving patient outcomes and lowering cost of care was immediately gutted only months into new executive leadership. Probably still only exists due to contractual arrangements with providers. Day to day, there is little in the way of operational or tactical direction and little real work is occurring. People are unnerved: just trying to lay low, not create trouble, and survive the next volley of exits.

Nothing was dishonest folks. Stop speculating. Those at the top have all the facts. Those here creating spin, just don’t. For those in the meetings and paying attention, this all makes sense. Lots of bad decisions in IT, tens of millions flushed due to bad decisions and duplicate overlapping efforts, this should make any paying member angry. CareFirst is going through transformation, it’s hard, they are still a great and ethical company, and will end up a much different and better company as a result of the journey it has started; this is the demand of the market and industry.

New leadership, new perspective. CareFirst is on the right path. If you are a current employee commenting here negatively, shame on you. If you are unhappy, leave. Those making noise and a fuss about this are precisely the ones who need to go. Those who are flexible, have a positive attitude, can adapt, and roll with the change will be fine. Those digging their heels in and complaining about change should go, my guess is those are the ones who don’t have anywhere to go based on the local market skills and education needs.

You people have no idea what you are taking about. Those who know, don’t say, those who don’t are the ones speculating.

So Cold they way my Director was released..The Senior VP very coldly read a “script “ to my former boss and left the room, waited for my former boss to come out of conference room and my former boss was informed that he could not return to his office...

Many people reported in at least two separate meetings with the CIO that he stated 'no one here is losing their job'. He lied to our faces with a smile on his.

That must be why the new CIO made a promise in an all-hands meeting in December that “everyone here will have a job”. False.

Must also be why my Director said it was far more likely people at their level were to be released than anyone at mine. Again false, at least in my former area.

The problem isn’t making hard business decisions. It is the utter lack of respect for our integrity and maturity on display in how the reductions in force were done. Good people were let go in a dishonest manner.

Good luck with morale in the new CareFirst. Even better luck keeping that coveted “most ethical company” rating.
