Thread regarding CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield layoffs

Seems like a lot of Directors sacrificed their managers in order to survive

I had heard that there were going to be a few more today. So much for flattening from the top though, seems like a lot of Directors sacrificed their managers in order to survive. A lot of really good, hardworking, highly skilled people were let go. They didn't pick so well when they chose who to let go. The CEO wants to focus on the employee as his customer and many of those people who are left don't know how to do that. Or maybe the CEO was lying. Oh well, CareFirst's loss is someone else's gain. Best wishes to all who were let go and to the survivors too who will remain behind to try and pick up the pieces.

Handful can't be right when 21 managers in IT were eliminated and only 7 Directors.

The comment about Directors sacrificing managers is not correct. For the most part the people let go were Directors and above. Only a handful of managers were impacted. Trust me I am in the midst of it all. Agreed it could have been handled better. We have been on pins and needles for months. I would imagine the initial re-size is about done but I would not be surprised if a smaller re-size happened as the company transforms the structure.

What exactly is your point? Of course underlings are sacrificed. Do you know a different business model?
