The flaws of Walmart’s strategy to beat Amazon

This is an interesting article that contains a truthful observation of what Walmart is missing in its strategy regarding e-commerce and its quest to take on Amazon. Tend to agree with the fact that, with these kinds of investments into technology WM will catch up in that segment, but other pieces of the puzzle are where WM is still behind. I recommend this article as a good read.

Yeah, it was called 'All Hands on Deck'. I remember it well, and you described its illogic perfectly.

Stores are ran in the same manner. We runaround in from fire to fire. We used to just grab associates from all over the floor to put out the fire. When that fire was out we would be ok then turn around and find another one from where we took the associates from. Keep everyone running around like your heads are chopped off !!

I worked at the HO and a VP described us as fire fighting arsonists. We cause the problem due to lackadaisical processes and then spend weeks, if not months, fixing the issue.

Walmart will never catch up !! As an associate, I can tell you from first hand experience. Walmart will not invest in staffing. The field has always suffered in staffing. People is Walmart’s downfall they treat them as a commodity to be thrown out shuffled from place to place. Knee jerking, fire fighting is what we do best. We are know for puting bandaids on problems for a quick fix. When the problem is so big all of a sudden they will send a million people from all the stores to fix it fire the SM and start over. Same thing with EC. I won’t even order from my own dot com ...

Walmart.com site looks like c-ap. Also I can buy everything I want from Amazon 3rd party vendors and get a fair price and prime shipping. The 3rd party vendors on Walmarts site are a joke.
