The gang of liberal Attorneys Generals sued ED to stop them from using earnings data from the Social Security Administration in borrower defence decisions and they won - but they had no idea that they just shot themselves in the foot because this resulted in SSA refusing to share the earnings information at all with ED. This renders the GE rule dead as a doornail. Classic.

These AGs have never advocated for GE rules to "protect" students that attend for public and private non-profit schools. Apply the rule across the board or not at all. The rule would still need modification. The rule failed to take into account graduates that subsequently elected not to work in order to stay at home and raise a family or for a variety of other reasons. This was a blatant failure in the rule making process.
And you feel good about that?
