Can't be any worse than in '91 when we forced Congress and Bush 41 to force us back. They heard us loud and clear within 24 hours then.

Sad but true. The railway labor act gave us the right to unionize but also governed how and when we can strike to protect the economy. Like the previous says we need to stand together in all departments and unions and give 'em hell this next time round!

I'm all for the striking across all unions but don't forget the "talk" of "we cant" is because of laws put in place to prevent work stoppage and diruption of the economy with interstate commerce. Whole reason there's the NCCC and PEB. Our best shot would be these coming negotiations when current contracts expire 2020. Otherwise we all risk being fired for an illegal strike.

Step 1 control communication between all mechanical crafts. Any web designers that can create a communication board that we can start recruiting all mechanical points to for solid communication? Share this idea with your points. Let’s fight back against this corporate sh-- and get our brothers back.

Exactly ! We need to stand together and strike. If these locomotives stop moving Omaha will get the hint and sh-- will change . But they will continue to walk all over us cause WE allow them to

All these post talking about how we’re not allowed to strike. We are grown a-- men who don’t need to be told what we can and can’t do. If the mechanical department can somehow come together and communicate, we could make a huge impact. We are our brothers keepers and it pains me to see so many good men losing jobs at Christmas time. Power in numbers is real, we just have to find a way to make it happen. Screw union officers, we are the union.

IBEW voted the contract down once. Then decided they didn't like that so they sent it out for a revote and even had local officers telling us we better vote for it. "Its the best we can do in this economy" they said. Now the company is putting people on the streets right before the holidays and we get crickets from the unions. All they want is you to be a good little drone and pay your dues.

At least you guys can vote. Member of ARASA don't even get a vote, our union bosses just say we get what everyone else gets. We have no say at all in our contract, and union dues keep going up($98) which we also have no say in.

As a mso our Union wouldn't even tell us the vote count. All the union leaders need to be removed. I think all crafts in mechanical just need to strike for one day.

Another thing that needs to happen is when contract negotiation start, they need to let the skilled crafts go to negation FIRST! All the crafts were screwed out of healthcare and benefits because the negotiations were led with maintenance away and MSO crafts. These agreements were then used against the other crafts by the arbitrators as "other unions have signed the agreements, why haven't you?"

The Boilermakers in NLR voted their contract down TWICE and their Union officals still signed it into affect. Its Hard to have any confidence in our Unions these days.

As a UTU/SMART union member I have to agree. The utu is a completely worthless union. The top of it is filled with gutless cowards that are clearly paid off by UP.

I like how all the unions gave up on getting sick and personal days back along with earlier years of service times for vacations but boy did management get all that.

Somebody should tell utu to stop being the first to always cave at the bargaining table then..... 2011 and 2017.... 202x? Probably then too.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to strike. If other crafts would have stood with THE MACHINIST during the contract negotiations we might have stood a chance.
