Peopel were seen crying at the Santa Ana office today as a substantial amount of workers were let go. FirstAM is an older workforce so many older workers are going to have a tough time finding jobs while younger workers seemed happy about the extended holiday paid vacation

I am thankful I was let go in a strong market. The IT infrastructure at first American is serverly out dated and there are no real processes in place.
The funny thing is to hear management say “we need to change and be innovative” and st the same time line manager say “I have been here 20 years and we are always going to do business this way” - was a very confusing place to work at times. Will say a prayer for everyone but I am thankful I have received a couple offers already with a big pay increase. Don’t get down and keep pushing... Opportunities will come knocking and always remember loyalty is gone..
Did First American violate the WARN Act? Mass layoffs require 60 days advance notice to the affected employees by law:

This company is horrible. People are treated like numbers. Their moto of "People First" is complete BS. Even their name "First American" is BS because many of the jobs they laid off are now being outsourced to India and other non-American countries.
They have a NDA is our packages and if you sign it you get ONLY one extra check.
Like that's worth it.
Get this into the MEDIA NOW
First American prides itself on being one of the Best Places to Work. Pfffft. They put pressure on us to fill out those surveys, but they couldn't care less about the employees.
Geraldine, the new CTO, came in with a hatchet and cut tons off the workforce (I'm sure others share the blame), but her reputation is that once they move most of the business to the Cloud and proceduralize it, she'll pull a Disney and replace many if not most of the US employees with people from India. Great place to work? Ha!
It's all about the bottom line.
I was about to put in my two weeks notice.... and got an extended holiday paid vacation before i start my next position. Thank you First American for the early Christmas gift. God only knows how horrible my boss was at the Santa Ana Campus!
People First? Hey, shareholders and executives and cloud contractors are people, too! LOL
I definitely didn't see this coming as First American has always been a very secure place to work as far as the IT infrastructure department is concerned. They took a significant hit last month with a major outage that occurred and I can't help but to think that this contributed to the mass layoffs. I will miss my friends there. Job security and loyalty obviously are no longer viewed as an important asset now which is amazing considering that they pride themselves on "People First".
Thanks alot FA :-/

What is loyalty versus a better Q4 report?
Dedication to your work is a mark of your own personal integrity. Loyalty to a corporation that has no obligation to employ you at all and will terminate your employment for financial reasons makes no sense. I enjoyed working there for the most part, but my loyalty is to my loved ones for whom loyalty causes me to sacrifice something, and that does not include any employer. Working for a paycheck is a business deal.
This is true and the sheer number of views on this thread proves (40 views in one hour). Nobody reported on this, the media is silent, it's all milk and honey in this ever growing economy.
Yes, we did have layoffs today and someone needs to speak up and the media needs to cover this story.
While we are at it, do executives have any plans on curbing exec bonuses (at least as long as they are culling loyal resources).
Shame.
