Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

And another store is done...

No surprises here.

The Barnes and Noble location on East Third Street will close in February 2019, according to a statement from Jim Lampassi, vice president of real estate development at Barnes and Noble.

Recently visited a store and they were training seasonal employees. Management boasted they were doping so good. Better than any Christmas season. Behind her were styrofoam white fireplace decorative logs.

Seriously, everyone looked depressed.

Any new people on this board? Just curious. I have been reading the comments on the Face Book Employees page but management has scared people from writing.

It seems morale is at an all time low. I overheard our store manager saying what a b--ch our DM is- apparently she's been with the company since the 70s and never got promoted past that.

The flagship store at 18th and 5th in NYC just shut down one day, no notice, nothing. People came to work with the doors closed and a sign saying they'd been laid off. Nice, huh?

Despite the massive cheapness, lowering employee discounts, taking away member benefits (remember, it used to 20 percent off of adult hardcover books, they stopped that years ago), barely any staff (especially in the music dept., where they often have nobody covering the department), they're still going under.

Couldn't happen to a bunch of nicer ba*ds.

At least they have a warning. How do you think the 1900 of us felt when we showed up for work one day and poof we're gone within minutes......unless you had a a**hole manager that decided to wait till the end of your shift cause they were short handed . Or you just started your vacation and your district manager calls you at home to tell your because your store manager was too sorry of a person to do it himself. And yeah I am still very angry and can't wait for the whole dam company to disappear,

My daughter works at that store and she's crushed. She was expecting it though. She's young and energetic and I am sure she'll be fine, loved the store very much...

Terrible timing announcing this before Christmas. The people who work there are not going to be very motivated now, especially with all the membership nonsense. Plus they won't be getting any severance, either.
