Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Development needed

I am a 9+ year employee, 3 year assistant, over 50 who just received a "development needed" rating which is a death sentence. It IS happening. Sadly, nothing about me, my productivity or quality of work has changed. I received good to excellent reviews for 8 years. It is a corporate decision which cannot be explained or justified...it's just business. No one truly matters except the customers and until they demand change, the corporation grinds on. It s---s having 9 loyal years set on fire like random yard debris, but it reminds me that nothing is certain. At least all the kids are grown and gone so it's just me and momma I have to worry about now.

Thank the bell curve for that. Managers have to find someone to be at the bottom of the curve.

Management had no back bone to tell upper management how stupid of snow idea it was.

When they said save aggressively, so true. I’ve been doing that for 30 years at Walmart. They’ve been good to me always. But I have the financial security I can leave at any time.

Ethics is not really a thing. When you make a complaint, it is routed directly to your store manager who smothers it immediately. Only a BOLI complaint with lawyer in tow has any affect on Walmart.

To the comment saying, "Evals haven't begun"....this isn't evals. This is a hit list. It's not rumor, my store manager looked me in the eye and told me this. Enadvertantly, her superior confirmed it. And, who trolls for the union?

I know MANY people who have left the company, both Home Office and store management, and not ONE of them have regretted it. Change will be good for you and your family. Hope you have a Costco near you because they are the place to go. I should have left years ago, but looking back now, Wally World did me a BIG favor!

Good Luck!

To the person who said 'report to ethics' , no way that works. I was multiple years in, never missed a raise, always strong evals, my work and management relations were solid, and then....bam. My life there became a raging sea via a co manager (named Phil Crawford) who simply didn't like me. I tried everything: SM, MM, Ethics Hotline, the works. All to no avail. These people are like doctors and gangsters: they all stick together. After a gruelling seven months, this sadist got me fired.

One small caveat, tho: He was himself ousted during the massive Co Cut last year. I'd never believed in Karma before that, but it was sweet to watch it befall him.

Same BS happened to me last year. My 2 former store managers are both market managers now and rated me exceeds over the course of the 15+ years I worked for them. New store manager comes in and I get the first valued performer eval I have ever had in 20+ years with the company. I had a sit down with him after the eval and he told me how great I was but couldn't find a way to give me what I deserved. I swallowed my pride last year but if I don't receive the proper eval I deserve this year then I will know that the writing is on the wall and my time is coming

Pay off your house and do not get into more debt. Start saving aggressively.
