4's = college grad without competing job offers

6's= college grad with a few years experience without any skills

8's= underpaid individual contributors that handle grunt work

10's= underpaid individual contributors that handle grunt work but are good at managing up

Depends on the business unit. Most BU’s use even numbers for S/W Eng’s. The higher the grade, the more they expect of you. 4’s are college grads. 6’s are grads w/ intern experience and/or junior people w/ 1-3 yrs. 8’s are experienced mid-career and can have anything from 5-20 yrs exp. 10’s tend to be highly skilled & are team leads. They’re expected to mentor junior staff, solve problems independently, lead process improvements or manage people.

9’s are between 8’s & 10’s. More leadership & problem solving but no managing.
