Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Please cut the DRO jobs!

There is not a bigger waste in this company than a DRO. Everything they do is counter to moving freight. They stop mainline and yard traffic in the name of safety, but still can’t proactively help anyone. The whole premise is bull. “We are there to respond to incidents”. Well, why can’t you prevent them in the first place? Oh yeah, that’s right, you don’t want to because your job and paycheck relies on stuff going wrong.

If Union Pacific wants us to get back to railroading, get rid of these counter productive DRO’s!

There truly is not a more b---s--- worthless position on the Union Pacific than a DRO. I have met used car salesmen with more intelligence than the DRO’s I have met.

The thing is you can still have safety oversight without having a DRO. Agree they are counter productive in every way. We already have a group that writes the rules and managers that make sure employees are following the rules. So why do you need a DRO on every service unit to re interpret the rules and just add more work above what the system requires? It’s just an added layer of BS for those closest to the work.

They’re all worthless scumbags! I hope they get cut.... Then Divorced.... Then contract a flesh eating virus.... Then step on a lego.... Then kill themselves due to the fact that the LEGO was a reminder of the children they had that now enjoy their “New Dad” much more than they ever did them....

Right! Safety is now EXPECTED! The new culture is much more safety oriented and less “s**T happens” type attitude of the old heads. Unfortunately the DRO Pinkertons are having to resort to dishonesty in order to remain relivant and appear needed.

We are a service industry, not a safety industry.

The thing is, safety incidents are down, missed schedules are down, efficiency is up, waste is down, all by double digit percentages in the last ten years as we put these positions into place. And the correlation as we bring in the educated new guard and remove the less educated old guard is very high. The younger educated workforce works more safely and efficiently, on time, and with less waste, and with less liability, and the difference is huge. For whatever reason, there's a big difference in quality.
