Siemens wanted to close SDDTI a long time ago because of legacy asbestos claims of the prior company they acquired.
The products are small gas turbines and the shelf life was coming to an end. They also had to stay a certain amount of time for the NJ tax benefits and slowly sold of portions of the large tract property in subdivisions.
Siemens when I was there was always in turbine following GE and never an original thought came out out that place after it was taken over.
The management was corrupt and combative with the troops.
