System Velocity

I’ve noticed that the system velocity “appears” to be near goal. But other metrics seem to contradict the fact... for example First OS has been down and is well below goal. Dwell time is up etc... So what’s the deal?

Anyone else look at the metrics and scratch their head?

DWELL time LMAO, all they do is hold the trains out of terminal ,it takes longer to get in because of cooking the books.

First rule at UPRR is to have all departments fight each other on goals......in order for 1 to succeed another has to fail. It really creates a good cohesion in the business units to unite for a common goal.

First os has always been a joke measurement. Nothing is stopping the mto from pulling the lead out, checking the first milepost, then pushing it back into the terminal to have it otr service fail on someone elses scorecard.

Get 20 up managers in a room and ask them what the best service to customer metric is and youd get 20 premeeting invites, 40 meetings, a shark tank and 5 years later maybe an answer...but theyd all be different.
