Thread regarding CGG Veritas layoffs

Layoffs before the end of the month?

Is it true CGG is planing a major layoff round before the end of this month?

Please tell me that's not true. Preparation for holidays is stressful as it is on its own. If I have to throw worrying about being laid off in the mix, I'm not sure my poor heart will be able to take it.

Any info would be highly appreciated.

The last post is true.

I am an ex-CGG employee. I was in a very well paid position @ CGG with over 25 years experience in the field. I could see the direction that management were taking with the organisation and I had two choices. 1) Carry on working and wait for redundancy / (If lucky Retirement) or 2) Leave and retrain in another field.

I chose option 2, leave and re-train. I just couldn't see how CGG would survive long term. I was concerned if I hung on, I'd be too old to be retrained or too old to get another decent paid job. While I was at CGG, I worked hard in the evening and weekend, even went back to night school and obtained exams. Once qualified, I handed my notice in and lived off my saving while I continued to get more qualifications and job hunting.

Now I am in an industry, although not as good paid, but at least I should have a career until I retire.

If I was 10 years older, I would have taken the easy route and stayed on until I could retire or be close to retirement. Re-training is hard and also gutting at the same time as 25 years of Oil and Gas experience is down the pan.

Hi all, there's no need to be nasty to each other, regardless if you're current or former CGG/Veritas.

Given that we spend a huge chunk of our adult life working, it's not surprising that there's strong opinions and emotions when it comes to the job.

A lot of us who left during this down period, did so not by choice and that can have an impact, emotionally, financially etc. Personally, it took me a year to really get over being let go (1st time in my career, almost 11 yrs at Cgg). And coming to site doesn't help :p

For x employees, why do we come here? Can't speak for everyone, for myself part of it is due to pettiness, selfish reasons and other part hoping friends n x colleagues survive as well as they can.

For guys still in cgg, I sincerely wish you guys all the best luck. My only advice is to prepare for the worst. You may still believe Cgg will survive and should do the best u can in your job but prepare for the worst. Start picking up new skills, go out and network in other industries, come up with a plan to start your own business, build out your emergency fund... whatever floats your boat. Unlike those who left earlier, you guys have had plenty of time to prepare yourselves.

Will it be easy ? ... Nope!

But a little pain now saves you a lot of hurt later on. Believe me on this, due to not being prepared, it took me almost 2 years after being let go to retrain myself and a good job in another industry.

Sorry for the long post. Cheers everyone.

What a load of rubbish. You sound like a bitter (ex?) employee with no real understanding of the wider company beyond a remote centre.

Ok, major clients, since approximately the time when Ian Thornton left Crawley, the board, his replacement and from VP to the senior managers have been part of a major asset striping campaign.

First massively overpaying for low quality companies.

Then in the down then, ignoring the core businesses, closing offices that were once well managed by changing the Crawley manager in charge, overstaffing them, stealing their earned work then claiming they were not profitable and closing them removing the local service that took years building their reputations, literally giving away vessels and equipment to a competitor, top experience people redundant or left, taking on high interest debt, ....

Asset striping is not how to survive a tough market, the competitors have proven this.

So maybe the management is diabolically incompetent from board level to the senior managers.

Can so many people in key positions be this disappointing.

or maybe there has been a concerted inside effort to dismantle the company from a very high level.

Either way the fall is spectacular

I know for a fact that CGGs major clients in senior positions read this website. That is how I found out about it. I also know that senior staff at cgg also read it. Don’t think you are not being heard. Have a voice, say what you believe and you will be heard.

The company can't make any money & has not done so for years. The only "solution" is to break it up & sell it off to anyone interested.

Based on the latest news, I would anticipate a huge impact on Massy. They have managed Land and Marine acquisition.

If you're in the industry, how can you not be expecting layoffs/sell offs/bankruptcy ? Especially over the past 3 or 4 ( or 20 or 25 ) years. Reality s---s I know, but the threats have always been there. But do you really expect someone posting here knows what CGG management will do? Especially since CGG management don't know what they're doing. Send in the clowns.

You do feel genuine concern when someone ask these questions that HR and management are raising the bar too high
