Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Enginner Level

Engineer leve here, we the ones who keep up with all your c-ap. Got NO RSU, c-appy 7% bonus and a 3% increase after killing my self, this is my 5th year, lowest of all. Are QCT benefits going to the Fuc... toilet? We already lost our vacation! It wont come as a surprise if I start paying for healthcare in our paycheck next year. QCT is dying and gives no sh-- anymore about their employees. I think they will bail us very soon and of course no vacation payoff when that happens. And may say that will happen in January so save your grand bonus Srs.

No RSUs being and engineer. Does it really signal something ominous?

@1peq & @1mow:

True, big chunk of promotions at Q are not based on one's technical abilities. Several examples in QCA, especially in SoC team. Look at their Sr director and many Principals - they don't hold those titles because of their tech skills.

@1ktg Nope. It was an office on the eastern seaboard.

@1peq: Did you work at the PMIC VI?

Save your career and get out of QCOM. Those staying can’t clear the technical interviews at the other major tech companies. Or they don’t want to go back to their horrible countries. Either way, assuming you’re competent, you can do better elsewhere.

From my experience when I worked there, your promotion/pay wasn't tied to the work you did. There was a lady in my group who just modified config files and wrote nice formatted text documentation, and she got promoted to SS.

I recently spoke to a colleague in Bay Area who was offered job by QCOM, prevailing thought was it would have been a good company to work for 10 years ago. At this point, all about executive team hitting street guidance, board tracks on monthly basis, makes adjustments as necessary. The days of inflated salaries, RSUs, merit increases and bonuses are over. Well unless you work on 10th floor where the poorer the performance seems to equate to more money. The only engineering going on is financial engineering by a guy that still has a clam shell. Good luck with that.

Director here. No RSU is a bad sign.

I left this company, but I'm pretty sure two of my former coworkers got hefty raises even though all they do s--- up to their boss and modify config files.

"As they say it’s just business. "

Yep and I left. Far too high demands for the salary. Endless BS meetings.

Q used to fly me business class. Q used to have excellent healthcare. Q used to have high end laptops. That all went away. Coach class across the Pacific, sh-- healthcare that I paid for entirely (huge deductible) and low end piece of garbage laptop that I spent WAY too much time fixing because "One-c-ap-IT" went to the sewer. Remember when Q was regularly on the list of best places to work ? Not on that list anymore.

So my determination to excel also went away until I quit. See, "transactional relationship". You renege on the agreement, I walk away.

Way to loose talent Q. Sad. Treat your employees like its "just business" and "transactional" and the good ones will up and leave.

Someone contact me via Linkedin the other month about a job they were pursuing at Q. I quickly informed them of the realty of huge hours, utter conflicts with family time and real life and c-ap all over the place. They wisely declined Qs offer.

San Diego

There are SoC jobs been added this week.

And if you don't have a tie to SD and want to explore other paths forward then consider other locations too.

Micron is a great company too. And they will hire from Q pool no problem.

Junior engineers have a lot of obstacles and those that overcome them will be successful throughout their career wherever it leads them. As a senior engineer you will depend on that experience as you navigate through the rest of your life/career.

My favor job was similar in those early career years, but had to move on from it. Its not Q specific what you areexperiencing. Lots of factors involved. Keep rising and stay positive in all aspects of life and career.

Why are you cribbing so much? You get what you deserve? If you don’t like it go somewhere else , Qualcomm owes you nothing and you don’t owe anything to Qualcomm.

It is a simple “transactional relationship”. As they say it’s just business. No hard feelings.

I and all of our department are in San Diego. I am talking on behalf of 3 or more departments in the same situation of more than 10 employees. I am talking for 50 or more employees in San Diego! And yes we are salary and yes all salary employees at qualcomm lost vacation benefits dont pretend like we didnt. If we quit or get lwt go no vacation to be paid.

Gpj is correct. Salary is a reflection of your current value to the company. Bonus for pass perf. RSU for your future value to the company. They shall be consistent to what your manager tells you. If they tell you that you are doing great and no need to improve even if you asked, yet bonus and RSU s---s. Then you should find another job or manager to work for. Something is not right. We own our career growth, not your manager or others. Hope this help. Good luck.

NO RSU = No future. This is indirect way of saying you are on the next RIF list.

I strongly encourage you to seek a new employer.

I haven't been wrong yet.

I don't work for Qcom. What country are you in? Why would you lose your vacation?

Many companies are planning to layoff in USA for engineering since much of it can be done outside of USA at a cheaper rate.
