Thread regarding CGG Veritas layoffs

A good view on everything that’s wrong at CGG

The shares are falling because debt is rising quickly.

Look at the quarterly reports since bankruptcy.

Revenue is improving yet the profit generated is insufficient to cover depreciation, costs and high interest payments.

Debt is in dressing about 50M per quarter.

Assets which may have generated revenue have been sold cheaply. There are no easy additional sources to generate income for recovery.

The world has realised there is enough oil going forward, so oil is now entering a phase of long term decline and low prices. This is consistent with the 6 year boom and bust cycle

1996, 2002, 2008, 2014, 20xx

The company management is failing internally, ill prepared for a new price drop and is odds on to fail a second time.

An effective cost solution mentioned several times would be to close Crawley (poor management and surplus to French processing centre) and abandon the processing mega centre for cheaper, more powerful cloud service providers.

This is all very true. A good summarization of the state that the company is in. Thanks, @W169eeb-1ulo

Was it Crawley management who told you they were profitable...

Oh dear.

Real money is made (and lost) in marine, there is minimal money in marine these days.

For the last 3 decades processing centres only make a small profit when minimising management overhead and maximising people working on projects. Any other ratio is financial disaster.

Walk around the building

How many managers?

How many processors?

How many support services?

Consider the ratios, is this a lean agile operation. Check on the internet for viable business - worker manager ratios

Just what exactly are they all managing, challenge (or more politely ask) them, then consider, is what they are doing worthy of their existence in a harsh business environment. Work out whose in their networks and why knowing this would be interesting! Consider why are they really there?

Try some maths, as a very rough estimate, TL50, Sup60, researchers and managers more.

Multiply the total staff numbers vs live projects for a single month, add in all the overheads just to keep Crawley building open with running a business (don't forget the overpriced obsolete Redhill and corporate costs)

Come to your own conclusion, not your managers, not this website, yours and stand up for it with the evidence to back your words, ... but only when it's politically correct, in the right network, at the right place and time. Your future job might depend on it

What a load of rubbish. Closing one of the most profitable processing centres would be s---c-de.

Professionals organise and manage work within work hours.

French office

Incompetents work all hours

Bad managers force people to work all hours

Why should they work weekends?! They’re not contracted to do so...

DONT KNOW WHY PEOPLE KEEP BANGING ON ABOUT FRENCH PROCESSING CENTERS. THE FRENCH WONT WORK WEEKENDS OR BEYOND OFFICE HOURS WHICH IS WHY PROCESSING IS DONE IN THE UK.
