Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Are they closing the CCIE program for most tracks?

Is there anything to confirm they are closing the CCIE program for most tracks. It looks like Richardson, TX will become the only lab testing center in the US. To me that looks like they are downsizing, but not getting rid of certification tracks entirely.

This was asked in another thread with no answer. Any chance somebody can answer it here?

Cisco's official statement on RTP, SJC and Richardson.

Cisco continues to evolve its certification and training portfolio — and the delivery platforms — to help our customers succeed. That’s why we’re adding a new, permanent CCIE lab in Richardson, Texas to our network of Cisco lab facilities located around the world. Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC and San Jose, CA will now become mobile test sites, adding to the 40+ plus locations we offer globally to provide candidates with convenient access to lab testing. We’ll continue to monitor the demands for labs and adjust delivery where necessary.

Where are people getting that RTP, SJC are closing and that the certification programs are going away?

When you think all the things Cisco wants to do with “software defined”, most all the CCIE material is irrelevant. They may be betting in 3 years certification programs themselves cant possibly keep up with the product changes and acquisitions.

Now if SDA, ACI, and DNA fail - you may see good old route-switch knowledge resurrected. Time will tell.

Just got it from a reliable source that the Cisco Certification programs are being cancelled. Coursera is now a lead vendor and others like them are under consideration. It's all about profits. Cisco Press is also on the chopping block along with the non-producing Cisco Learning Network and Cisco Learning Network Store. They just aren't making margin. The Cisco 360 programs for Collaboration and Routing have simply not worked out to quite ELT. Those teams are slated to be chopped by the end of 2019.

Rumor has it that RTP (and maybe even SJC) lab testing centers will be closed by the end of the year. A new testing center in Richardson, TX is to replace both of them.
