In my job alone - automation lets me do 3x the work of average employees and 2x the work of high productive employees. This automation is still a ways out for mass role out... but it’s coming. If you owned a business you’d want to increase your profits too... this is the easiest way to do it. Get rid of all the slackers and keep the good employee with automated tools. You can’t get rid of humans - but tools let you reduce the dependency and frequent chance of human error. outsourcing does obviously create its own mess though.. I’d rather see WS fail than all our money flowing overseas to “skilled” overseas people.
Maybe you don’t quite understand. The new products and services require LESS PEOPLE to sell, install, maintain, and support. This has nothing to do with outsourcing. It has to do with the reality that people are eventually going to have nothing to do. The jobs being outsourced won’t be needed either. Additionally, in case you didn’t notice the company is bringing in less money. This is due to conpetition and tech changes. The has to be a happy medium between revenue and cost.
"The telecom industry Is being taken over by software"
That's what everyone wants you to believe, but mostly telecoms are outsourcing more and more tasks to much cheaper labor overseas. Companies don't care about employee happiness or loyalty, they just want the best bang for the lowest buck. But it is backfiring, the cheapest labor won't do the quality work and the customers will notice and jump ship. In the end, with less customers, the executives will give themselves a huge raise for running the company into the ground.
With the outsourced people running the show, it won't matter about how much better the newer software is, if there is too much confusion and lack of quality, it will cost the company more money at the end of the day.
The telecom industry Is being taken over by software. Every other company is going through the same thing as WIN. Cost cuts and high margins are going to be the rule for survival and the need for human labor will be largely reduced. Look at the boards for other telecoms. AT&T has told their employees that they need to reduce costs by 50% by 2020. Only so much money to go around in this industry. You can blame management all you want but change is inevitable. The only people left when the dust settles are the ones who paid attention and learned the new stuff. I don’t even work for WIN - the same thing is going on where I am. At least I get to retire soon so I can take my severance into the sunset.
From a previous employee such as myself, I find it humorous to see so many of you bashing management, assuming they do nothing but sit there and stare at numbers all day. OBVIOUSLY, you are the ones that know nothing. I would say that most of the employees that worked for me were good folks, but... You know as well as I do that you could get rid of 1/4 of the hourly employees that you work with, and yes, complain about how they do nothing, and never miss a beat in your department.
With that being said, yes there are some managers that are absolutely worthless, most of which were promoted from craft with no managerial experience, nor were they properly trained, or took the initiative to learn their jobs, and how to properly support their teams.
To state "Cut Management" may mean you are the one that don't know what they are talking about and should fear yourself being on the chopping block.
Now, PLEASE do yourselves a favor, prepare yourselves for a new job, update your resume, make sure it is professionally written and focuses on your marketable skill sets. Do something to make your career better, rather than just complaining about WIN…. The job market is booming and is the right time to change careers or get on with a much more stable company.
Remember… WIN owes you nothing!
the date may not be confirmed but this company and every other telecom is going to look a whole lot different in a year or two due to the technology changing and legacy services going away. instead of causing yourself stress and refreshing this page every 5 minutes you should prepare yourself. get some offers from other comapnies. if the offers you get s--- then stay. but at least you have a leg up on those who decide to sit on their asses. i left last year for a better opportunity and then a month later my entire department was let go and some of them are still unemployed or underemployed. prep.
"This is 100% made up."
For the executives/directors - it is fantasy land. They aren't affected by the job cuts, they just waste the money that came in off the hard working employees. Directors and anyone making over $100k should be the first to go, they are useless and just barely float in all the c-ap in Little Rock
Greenville has allot of managers that can go. They have no clue what they are doing so they do nothing but look at numbers.
This is 100% made up.
I think Charlotte should be because we need to trim the fat with the management staff, and start with the mid management group. A lot of these staff managers need to go. It is not that they do not do anything. It is just that there are too many chiefs, and not enough workers. The staff managers stress the supervisors out, have ridiculous expectations for supervisors, especially in offline coordination. Ours has written our sup up, threatened our jobs, and goes to our director for minuscule things. He has been shuffled from multiple teams the last several months. My sup has left the office so upset. Our team wants him so bad to lose his job.
IT in TWN and HIA have onsite meetings on Monday, other IT groups have a Skype meeting on Thurs. Get ready for more ESL speakers doing IT fixes. Going great on the Help Desk!
If I had to deal with the p-ss-d off customers I would be doing blow too. #fake_news
Can we please start this round of layoffs in Charlotte? That's where most of the dead weight is these days. And don't forget to include the bobblehead managers and the worthless teamleads.
i call bs
Hopefully they clean house on some of the management. Favoritism and that "good 'ole boy" system in full swing.
LOL sad truth
"A severance check is about as close to a Christmas bonus as most of us have working for this company..."
A severance check is about as close to a Christmas bonus as most of us have working for this company...
Happy holidays!
I do too without any proof! Some of these people call dates, and they say I heard from my supervisor’s best friends, sister, etc. how did you hear. Did your supervisor tell you exactly? Were you in a meeting, or did you hear it through the grapevine? I think you are trying to get people worked up. I know they have a tendency of laying people off around the holiday season. My years of working there I have seen it happen!
Sad to say there is about 700 of dead weight in this company 300 of them have the title consultant, Sr consultant, principal, Sr principal, and VP.... The rest are all project managers.
I call BS without supporting facts.
Is it known what areas/departments will be affected?
