Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Look for Managerial Closed Doors

Sure-fire sign that they are manipulating the numbers game and figuring out who will go next. I - like many folks - are highly attuned to their manager's daily routine. When their doors close for longer than usual. They are re-arranging the musical chairs. Been seeing the same behavior since August. Closed doors on Monday/Tuesday, with the shoe dropping on Thursday/Friday.

Heads high, and clean out your computer. They take it from you quickly. No chance for last minute deletions. If you sense something happening, you can put the laptop in your car or leave it home just to buy time. Say you conveniently "forgot" it and will drop it off another time.

Technically, you should not have anything personal on your work PC. I have removed all personal stuff from my PC a long time ago. This way, if anything happens, I can just hand my PC over and walk out the door.

Per the recent post from "irek" regarding intellectual property, You are missing the point. No one's advocating sharing with the external world what's on people's laptops, rather, someone remaining has to take the time to go through the laid off person's laptop, figure out their filing structure, then look for documents. And, with too much work on everyone's plate, who will make the effort? I did meet with a team member after my layoff to explain where some documents were, and I also wanted to be sure any personal data (payroll stubs, performance appraisals, etc) were deleted (knowing full well that a savvy computer person could resurrect them if they wanted, but again, the odds are against anyone doing that). I trust the IT group who manages laptops in the US to do a thorough hard drive scrub before recycling.

Anyone that thinks Xerox doesn't care what is on your laptop is an id--t. And I think see people here advocating theft of company intellectual property. Perhaps it is time to make corporate security aware of this site.

If Nathanson consultants had a clue they would have seen that the managerial layer interviewed in many groups is 100% expendable. We won’t even be saved by outsiders because the insiders snowed them. Sad.

IYC -- in the US they don't trust us as far as they can throw us (so they confiscate the laptop pretty much immediately). The feeling is mutual...

In Canada, they let you have your laptop when they walk you out the door so that you can get what you need and then you can drop it off back to the office in a few days (or ship it back). This might differ depending on the person but this the general practice.

Why do people think the company looks at anything on your laptop? They are wiping that $hit clean and handing it to the contractor they need to hire to cover your job. No one cares whats on your laptop.
