Do you think Amazon’s new starting pay will cause Walmart to lose people? Or have trouble recruiting?

The physical thing is a valid point.
That being said, the person that mentioned work ethic has a point. There are plenty of Walmart employees who walk around doing as little as possible. Not to mention those that take 30+ minute breaks, etc.
There's no need to be butt hurt if you happen to be a hard worker; the comment didn't say ALL Walmart workers didn't have a good work ethic.
Good Luck running a store without $15
As someone below mentioned, it's not about work ethic. It's about a physically demanding job in 100 degree heat vs. stocking shelves in air conditioned store, no comparison! As someone who works in a Walmart DC I can assure you there's good reason DC's start at 16+ an hour. You just need to decide how hard you want to work, both are hiring and will take anyone with a pulse (we're so desperate we're relying on temp services).
Seriously, don't talk c-ap about Walmart associates not having work ethic. There are plenty that are some of the hardest working individuals out there who have great work ethic. Having great work ethic and actual physical ability to do strenuous manual labor are too different things.
People with great work ethic can possess that their entire career, but I don't know too many people who can withstand the beating their body will take working a strenuous manual labor job until retirement age. At some point they simply will not be able to keep up.
Let's be honest. How many 55 year olds do you see in the NFL, NBA, MLB? The body as it ages cannot take the demands, and there are always younger, more fit players ready to step up. Many average people never have what it takes physically, regardless of age.
Before people start with their disparaging comments about Walmart workers, or Walmart Corporate, think logically about what the wage issue is about.
Are you kidding? It's not a matter of work ethic, it's that many Walmart workers don't have the physical ability and stamina to work in an Amazon Fulfillment Center, period.
The jobs in an Amazon warehouse, and these are warehouses that aren't even climate controlled, are physically challenging as compared to someone who works as a cashier or puts produce in a bin in the confines of a nice store where customers shop. There is a day and night difference between the jobs and the physical level of discomfort that comes along with the work.
A few maybe; but a large portion of those that would like to simply don't have the work ethic to make it at Amazon.
No! These are distribution center type jobs, not cashiers or cart pushers. 15$ an hour jobs are easy to find, they just don't involve running a cash register.
My biggest pet peeve of all times
Home-office makes the hiring process even more difficult with all the training and the CBL‘s and the d--g testing it could be three weeks before you get someone on the sales floor.
I remember helping with the set up for a brand new store and Amazon built a warehouse close by and as soon as Walmart was ready to grand open they left and went to Amazon they had to pull people from other stores to run that store when they opened. All because of starting pay!
Yes, starting pay is a big deal! The hiring pool at Walmart is a joke! Along with the hiring process. Home-office makes the hiring process even more difficult with all the training and the CBL‘s and the d--g testing it could be three weeks before you get someone on the sales floor.
But, Walmart wants it that way don’t you;)
Unskilled labor is unskilled labor. If Amazon will pay 15, they’re going to get first choice of people that do that type of work.
Amazon has stores / grocery stores and delivery services.
How is unloading trucks and stocking shelves so vastly different? It's not corporate law practice vs. neuro aurgery. And with that established, why should Amazon unoaders be making better $ than Walmart unloaders?
Your almost-have-a-point doesn't make much sense.
No, they're 2 completely different companys. Walmart is hiring people to stock shelves and push carts, amazon is hiring people for distribution centers. Amazon employees should have been making 15 all along. Smart of Bezos to pressure Walmart to pay cashiers and cart pushers more than their worth tho.
