My experience working at Walmart corporate for 6 years is that you need to have someone in leadership like you and sponsor you - which means advocate for you behind closed doors. Those sponsorship situations are typically made through interaction with leaders at church on Sunday. There are so many talented folks at Walmart who could move up and do well, but the ones that do are the ones that have those relationships that go beyond work. Long time locals as well have a much better chance at finding this than newbies who move to NWA from other areas. That's why I left, felt my career wasn't going to progress anymore without being a very different person outside of work, and I didn't want to do that.
True we have had assistant come through and don’t know anything about a area or Walmart
Either change stores or careers. If it hasn't happened for you after this long, it's never going to. Walmart career advancement is all 100% beauty contests and popularity politics----which is a good clue as to why they're in trouble now.
I was offered Asst in a very short period of time. If it takes that long, maybe you should transfer stores. If you want Asst make sure you want to move up the ladder. That is a “sht river” position. It isn’t the same as 20 years ago.
