Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

HR is shameful

HR had an all employee meeting this week and their executives spent almost 10 minutes laughing and making fun of retirees who wrote letters about the retiree select a gift going away. I am fine with the decision to do away with the gift, but this speaks to the bigger issue. Three executives sitting in front of their entire department, a department that is suppose to be focused on employee issues, quoting letters and making a joke about how it makes people feel. Make no mistake, this distain for employees, past and present, is what executives are pushing and sadly the HR minions all laugh right along with them.

That’s OK it goes both ways their transition is coming shortly. Yes going to be outsource wonder what there faces are going to look like after that announcement. Most I knew in HR have already transition to the hubs getting other positions. Good luck.

No one at State Farm is honest and will be your friend. They say: "Learn to play the game!".

HR is a joke. It is a place for the good ol boys and girls as well as those who are married to MGMT. They don't give a cr-p about the employee.

Actuary is a small department-220-230 employees. Which is pretty surprising since 90% of the revenue flows through there. Probably should increase the employee count.

HR lied to me in the interview process. I took the job anyway, but it sure has affected my attitude and job performance. HR needs to learn that in the long run, if they don't treat employees well, it will eventually bite them.

Exec likes P&C Actuary so they are spared the axe. And Actuary execs have been moved up in the company. To be fair Actuary isn't nearly as bloated or wasteful as other departments are, or were.

Why is it that the history of this site has entries from claims, ad services, systems, and agency, yet none from HR or actuary. What is special about those departments?

@1rkj - Perfect, thank you.

Welcome to the new State Farm, where "Leadership" do not even attempt to hide their disdain for those under them. What a nasty culture Tipsord has created. One can only hope his son isn't such a horse's .......

I think several posters have stated this quite accurately. I couldnt care less about SAG but in my day in working in HR you did not openly mock or laugh at anyone even if their complaints or demands were different than what you thought the expectation should be. Being the source of training to ensure all employees were treated fairly and without ridicule should come from the top. Our leadership may disagree with the retiree’s opinions but they should respect them. But then again none of them care about the personal hell they have put so many through thus past year. It should be an embarrassment to leadership. But it isn’t.

I think the OP may be confused. HRs job is NOT to think of the employees... its job is to protect and insulate the company. Often from fake or real discrimination lawsuits.

You're the one who is confused. First and foremost, the formal job description of HR is irrelevant to the main thesis -- that is, the thesis that HR is acting inappropriately and that it's a symptom of the greater ill that has befallen the company culture.

Furthermore, HR has MANY responsibilities:

1) Preparing or updating employment records related to hiring, transferring, promoting, and terminating

2) Explaining human resources policies, procedures, laws, and standards to new and existing employees

3) Ensuring new hire paperwork is completed and processed

4) Informing job applicants of job duties, responsibilities, benefits, schedules, working conditions, promotion opportunities, etc.

5) Addressing any employment relations issues, such as work complaints and harassment allegations

6) Processing all personnel action forms and ensuring proper approval

7) Overseeing hiring process, which includes coordinating job posts, reviewing resumes, and performing reference checks

Nowhere in there do I see where it's appropriate for HR to laugh at employee requests.

1-wox- you are an id--t. HR is responsible for employee benefits and general welfare. What you described is a fraction of their responsibility.

Total lack of class and compassion. They obviously don’t appreciate that they too will be a retiree someday.

Example of why I don’t recognize this “new neighbor.” Sad. Unfortunately it is the “new” reality and looks like this “new neighbor” is staying for awhile. Callous and unethical.

Since when was HR ever for the employee? Never have been, never will be and never cared. When you have HR reps married and related to upper upper upper level of management, what do you expect? DEEP STATE KREMLIN!!! Heck! They sleep with each other then sell shared values.

While I'm not particularly sympathetic to people complaining about the select-a-gift while the rest of us are out of work entirely, it does indeed show a complete lack of moral integrity for HR to be making fun of them.

This is the culture Tipsy wants, apparently. Well, he can have it. The State Farm I knew simply does not exist anymore.

Disgusting. The new culture is unethical, and as op stated, a disdain for employees
