Retention bonus?

Heard some teams are giving out retention bonus stock grants. 100k over 3 years vesting. Is that true? Should I ask my director for it?

RSU is worthless. Qualcomm rescinded RSU grants in the MILLIONS in the last RIF (2018).

Don't be fooled. Take cash! and cash only for retention incentive.

Attrition needs to go up and so the whole rentention dollars are hard to jussify. Some needfuls will get.

But ultimately the well connected/hired by insiders will be paid some. Most not.

HR under pressure to up the temp to get some marginals out. Fear of loosing talent minimized. Appropriate actioned items done to defend as needful. Sure u know.

The problem with retention is that whoever did not receive is either dispensable or their jobs are going to be geo shifted. No one is speaking in detail right now. E.g. Whoever received the retention are shutting their mouth. BTW it is a combination of cash and RSU. All folks involved directly in lower layer 5G received it. Folks from Camera and other areas received last year (not sure about this year). You can evaluate on your own where you stand. Some folks are simply waiting for package while others are looking. In addition some dont even have a choice because of Visa issues. QC continues to claim that attrition is low from their target which means there will be more rounds.

I get idea last round of ARs showed very very few $rententions re-upped. Is that because Q is saving $$ for the buybacks or because its rapidly coming clear many projects are on shutdown timelines.ii

Target $retentions being setup quietly. Need to keep key folks ahead of the XXX geo-shift next spring. Lots of office and lab construction in HYD.

I agree with others that retention bonus is worthless even if it was $1M unless it is vested immediately. I've been through this before I was laid off from Qcom a few months ago. I got nothing!

If offered RSUs as a retention bonus I would counter with the requirement that the shares vest immediately upon involuntary separation without cause. I would also require the accelerated vesting schedule to be in addition to, and not in lieu of, the lump sum severance agreement offered to other employees.

Qualcomm took my unvested RSU when I was laid-off. The RSU grant is WORTHLESS if you are laid off as they will keep it.

The only retention bonus to consider in these uncertain times is CASH! and CASH only. Do not be s---er for RSU. You have been warned neophytes.

The problem is the future RSU commitment is worthless. Qualcomm revoked all RSU grants in the last layoff. Therefore the promise by Qualcomm to payoff the retention bonus is only good if you are not laid-off.

In other words, if you have a good offer elsewhere, now is the time to take it.

I got screwed out of $100K+ in the June 2018 layoff.

A promise from Qualcomm for anything is worthless.

Do as you will, but you have been advised.

And yes, I was laid-off but am still watching this blog. Call me a troll if you want but I worked for the $100K+ RSU grant and got screwed. So yes, I am angry.
