Larry Culp - Why not do what Alex Cora Did?

Larry,

You say you are a big Red Sox fan and love the way Alex Cora ran this year's championship team and are using him for inspiration for the GE Team. I love that Larry!!! Well then why don't you do what Alex Cora did and lead by example? Take a salary less than your failed predecessor and donate any money you will make with your incentive compensation to charity? Larry, read Alex's story below and then act and show us what kind of human being you are. "You can still win by being a human being, you know."

When the Boston Red Rox hired Alex Cora last year, some eyebrows stood to attention......And, guess what, his contract is one of the five cheapest in Major League Baseball. A mere $800,000 a year, according to USA Today. Compared to the $6 million a year earned by the likes of the Giants' Bruce Bochy and the Cubs' Joe Maddon, it's a middle management salary at best.

Yet Cora still felt he had some leverage. Emotional leverage, that is. Cora revealed in a press conference ..... the one thing that was vital to him before he signed:

"I mentioned it earlier today during the celebration that I only asked for one thing on the negotiation. And I know a lot of people have made a big deal of that. But I just asked for a plane full of supplies. And we went down there and we helped 300 families in my hometown."

Cora is from Puerto Rico, the most neglected part of the United States.

The island was devastated by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. What Cora wanted most was to help his hometown of Caguas. Imagine what his players -- and even those hiring him -- must have thought when they heard that. Cora explained:

"I told them, people are going to say 'thank you,' very genuine, and they did. It was a life-changing experience for a lot of people in this organization."

Many might have been greedy. They might have made demands beyond their skills. Cora showed what sort of human being he is. You can still win by being a human being, you know.

Sure, sure Larry is not in it for the $$. Have you seen the compensation plan for him? Again, all about the stock price. The wrong way to run a company. Also, KPMG needs to go ! More of the same c-ap that got GE in trouble in the first place. Wall street finance weenies should not be running this company or be on the board. Is it time to take this company private? The market cap is getting to a point where it is possible.

GE is like the Red Sox in that both have created contracts in which they pay players (Players for Red Sox, Executives for GE) to not show up and work. The Red Sox made these roster moves to improve the health of the team. GE just does it for the sake of doing it. How can GE claim cash poverty with the exit packages handed out to the failures in the likes of Immelt, Bornstein, Comstock, Rice, and now Flannery. Must be nice to be paid so handsomely for failing at your job.

All of you please stop dreaming. No senior executive will ever tell you the truth. And, remember, the more they repeat something (e.g. we need to work like a team, we are improving, we will not sell this or that), the less likely it is the truth. The biggest lie is when they repeat how they feel for you and are as well negatively impacted by what is going on. Negatively impacted yet still raking in millions of dollars a year? C'mon

Cool idea. Larry, we used to love this company and want to love it again. Please show us you're not in it for the money. Thanks!
