"They"said the Bass Pro combination would entice this town to grow by leaps and bounds. Gossip said the town's population would soar to 10,000 people. And then the bottom fell out when the buyer started a buy out process and that just started the whole process of what the city powers of manager and city council said was only a small lightening strike that started a flutter among the not so well to do townspeople. And then it happened again, with the layoff's and basically shutting down the warehouses north of town. Buildings started to pop up on the for sale screen in town and elsewhere. The buyer of Cabela's institution has pretty much put this whole area on a state of what do we do next. This last layoff is more or less a letting go of people that are no longer needed within the higher ups. And now, the buyer is fighting with the town council, ie, the property taxes for which will not be a small drop in any bucket. People who are or weren't in the know, are now just finding out how bad this "MOVE" really is. Will it ever hit bottom? Maybe. Time will tell.

Predictions? Maintenance, loss prevention employees, gone. Tracker, Nitro, Sun tracker, Mako boats still going to be pieces of sh-- made by wonderful junkies that aren't d--g tested. Found needles and pipes in various boats that arrive from the factory and also get the stories from truck drivers in the stores. Ranger boat quality also going to continue to decline, great work team.

Selling tractors should have been a tipoff of poor Cabelas decisions

I predict major changes in early 2019 after a dismal retail performance over the holiday season.

Only Walmart is big enough to compete with Amazon.

"What is Cabalas contributing to bass pro? to best of my knowledge all the retails stores all the distribution centers are even running at higher levels of production since before the merger"......

Just wondering, Cabela's Distribution Center Outfitters, what products are you pushing out the door? Are the Cabela's Distribution Centers now handling Bass Pro branded items more than Cabela's branded items. Either way, it's good for the employees at the distribution centers to have work, but it appears there is soon coming a day when something that says Cabela's on it will be hard to find.

The things you state are physical entities. They belong to BP now. A merger would imply that two companies come together and make joint decisions to improve. BP is making ALL decisions.

The Cabelas name belongs to BP and it doesnt mean Canelas is doing the work.

Yeah, you are right Sidney has fared very well. Corporate is a bee-hive of activity, the buildings are full to the brim. The real estate market is on fire and it's hard to get a table at Dudes. The coffers at City Hall are full. And the golf course is getting all new golf carts. The city manger has served us well. Thanks.

To begin with I remember one poster predicting Bass pro would fire every Cabela employee by January 1 2018 and one poster predicted bass pro would simply discontinue the entire branch of Cabalas and one poster predicted this was such a easy merger to complete and the two computer systems would easy be completely merged in two months after the merger agreement was finalized. What is Cabalas contributing to bass pro? to best of my knowledge all the retails stores all the distribution centers are even running at higher levels of production since before the merger.

And what is the definition of when one person or company spends money to acquire something?

I don't see Cabela's making any company decisions. I do see BP laying off cabala's employees, I do see BP suing. What is Cabela's contributing to this if this was a merger?

Sugar coat it all you want, but this was one company purchasing another.

Mr./Ms. All Caps = Mr./Ms. No Credibility.

When a post appears to be from him/her, I ignore it...and most of the time that includes any replies to him/her. Once he/she enters a conversation, the thread is dead.

Sorry, must be politically correct with my pronouns so as to not offend anyone, and in doing that I probably offended someone.

What about when Mr All Caps...said, "where are you hearing that Bass Pro is going to buy the Cabela's? That's a lie and you know it!"

At this point it doesn't matter. The fact is that the Cabela's brand is disappearing. Just look around your stores. Much of the clothing line is now Redhead or Natural Reflections (and others). If you can find a Cabela's branded item, it's usually accompanied by a clearance sign.

You want some BS...read this https://www.cabelas.com/browse.cmd?categoryId=1715190480.

I am reading the booklet sent out to the Cabela's stockholders and there is 153 pages (probably almost 200 pages with the index pages etc. On page one of the booklet the word merger was used ten times to describe this business transaction.

A purchase deal will also be called a merger when both CEOs agree that joining together is in the best interest of both of their companies. But when the deal is unfriendly—that is, when the target company does not want to be purchased—it is always regarded as an acquisition.

Follow us: Investopedia on Facebookhether a purchase is considered a merger or an acquisition really depends on whether the purchase is friendly or hostile and how it is announced. In other words, the real difference lies in how the purchase is communicated to and received by the target company's board of directors, employees and shareholders.

Perhaps instead of some one posting a negative prediction and then probably getting five statements in an hour agreeing with them Let’s look at past negative posts on this site at the time the merger was about to take place. Does everyone remember the comment in the summer of 2017 that this was and extremely easy merger which would be easy completed in two months and every Cabelas’s employee would be fired by January 1 2018. Another statement on this site was bass pro was just buying Cabelas to eliminate a competitor and would fire every Cabelas employee once the merger was completed. Another statement with a poster knowledge of business bass pro would fire every Cabelas employee in Sidney and bring in 40 bass pro employees to run the Sidney operation . Let’s not forget Safeway Applebee’s the Mexican restraunts along the interstate are closing you heard on this website .
