I worked for Genesis and I can say with certainty that productivity expectations appeared reasonable on paper however in true practice meeting monthly productivity was tough. I am not accusing anyone including Genesis of fraudulent billing however I have seen productivity numbers of other employees I worked with and I remember thinking "there's no way they came in that high?". I can't prove anything just what I saw and my thoughts regarding that. I can also say I was never ever pressured into fraudulent billing. Working in a SNF is hard work.

That is why all Rehab needs to be Unionized. I have said this for over 20 years. There is strength in numbers. I worked for Genesis. I left. They are fraudulent like all the other agencies. The problem is, rehabilitation folks don’t stick together. Most are brown nosers and only care about themselves. All rehabilitation folks need to unionize fast or it will only get worse. We need to get paid for our work, seniority, have say on how we treat, what us in the best interest of the top heavy companies. I hate to say it but you all deserve what you got. Too cheap to spend 600.00 a year to s Union it is tax deductible and you get free CEUs. I have been a union employee and believe me I was protected when I refused to do something fraudulent.

With us they are adding hours with a major paycut! So we are working longer harder and bringing in less. That means less means for my family and less time with my child. After 10 years of experience its disheartening to also be told that we are only allowed a certain number of visits for the patient that a computer or spreadsheet is recommending. This is not in the best interest of helping patients and not what I went to 7 years of school for. I feel like the government is trying to k–l off the baby boomers and eradicate our expertise!

Time for therapists to unite and start a union. I’ve been saying this for years. MDs, nursing etc all have unions to protect them from big corporations like stealing your hard earned pto. Firing you for zero reason. Zero respect. Big degrees. Lots of money invested and yet we are treated like slaves. I’ve actually been working in home health now for years and I’m seeing cult like behavior. Follow the leader without question. Horrible employee morale, yet not one therapist says or does anything about it. They just keep working harder, receive zero appreciation, worked into the ground, zero work life balance, increased pressure for productivity, stressed to the max, pay decreases??? And no one saw this coming?? Really??? I find myself moving around a lot because I cannot be treated this way. The future for therapy is bleak if we don’t act. I noticed even with home health pay decreases slowly but surely started: not paying for drive time, per visit rate, called per diem to avoid paying for benefits. This is outrageous for the amount of education we received. Heck even a plumber charges for his drive time but not us?? Time is now or it’s looking very bleak and so not worth paying 150,000 for.

I got screwed, I had 7 weeks of sick time gone! Only 4 weeks of severance after almost 12 years with company! The people that got layed off were the last ones hired, kinda!( but not really). I’m going back to waiting tables till something opens up.

All of this is true I didn't realize that all staff was not given the respect to be laid off with a personal visit . I was laid off 20 years ago with PPS, but, at least they made sure that I received all my benefit pay and severance pay which was helpful as I eventually was working 7 part time and full time jobs to make up the loss of my paycheck and not go bankrupt. I am wondering what the criteria was for choosing the person to be let go was? I noticed that people to took benefits and not mod comp which was encouraged after the affordable care act . Most of my co- workers benefits were provided thru their husbands work or Military/ government. I am single never married and have worked hard to survive in a workforce that caters to married employees, giving increased pay for employees who did not take benefits , or time off for school events and school breaks while I was expected to work. My question is how many were let go do to benefits , company loyalty, hired at a 40 hour week, when new employees after affordable care act were offered 30 , but, could work up to 40. How many were only scheduled 30 hours when they were 40 hour employees. I have not received full hours for years as the company continued to hire new grads . No pay raises were given in my building for years , I live in a very expensive area where housing is a premium, rents are astronomical and services for power , water ect… crazy high. In the seven + years and the 24+ years in the building I was tightening my budget to make ends meet, and vacation time denied I had almost 4 weeks of time that many request were denied. I wonder If this was the criteria used my co-workers now are afraid to take benefits for this reason.

As of Jan 1, 2020, I read and understood PDGM for PTAs serving Med B patients at ALFs requires that a PT must be present in the bldg for a PTA to treat patients in that ALF bldg. This is bad news for PTAs. Can anyone confirm my understanding of this?

I am a COTA who was laid off on October 1st. Prior to October 1st our DOR said we have nothing to worry about in our area. I now realize that she had no idea what PDPM really stands for or means to revenue (especially to a company based on greed). I cannot find another job. I am sickened by all the pressure I got over the years to see patients who were not appropriate. Now appropriate patients will not get what they need. Co-workers are telling me groups are now mandated!

I was laid off Oct 1 at end of my shift after 15. 7 years of loyalty to this Genesis company. The area supervisor was reading a script, I had asked for a copy of what she read, never got it.
It took all my power not to just say F/U and walk away from the computer screen. A whole lot of words but no good reason to be laid off. Now I am working part time, shuffling between buildings. I feel so used. I am still so furious! I am just waiting out my time I guess. Now I have to work every weekend I am exhausted. It is super stressful to go from building to building. I am not a traveler. And I was assured I would get a raise as I am making 5$ less than average PTA I DIDN'T get any pay raise !!! NOW I AM MAD all over again
No benefits No pay raise and less hours THANKS Genesis >=[ thanks a lot

While Hager is rich from corporate greed, I do not wish for him to suffer in one of his facilities. I feel bad for all these patients being treated (or not treated) for financial gain.

I've been at Genesis for about 10 years right now and it's a great company to work for.....you must either be a corporate mole posting a bogus blog or a major brown noser with mgmt in your keister. Genesis is a fraudulent company plain and simple. They are going down and I hope Hager ends up in one of his rat traps with orthopedic condition and dementia tossed into 30 min group that is both laughable and inappropriate. Although seeing him on his death bed being forced to participate in useless fraudulent therapy for 75 min under PPS would do nicely too.

Also experienced job loss. Genesis DOR reported a month prior to October 1st that we have nothing to worry about! Patient need is not a priority for Genesis. Jobs are scarce now for all assistants!

I still have the post-it note that was left on my desk by the Director of Rehab saying "Groups are mandatory". I would hate for CMS to see some of these patients with dementia thrown into a group setting with minimal participation just to cut labor costs for Genesis Rehab.

75 minute treatment sessions were mandated by Genesis Rehab for sickly patients that should be on Hospice Care prior to October 1, 2019. Now an appropriate patient gets only 30 minutes of treatment with weekly groups/concurrent sessions since October 1, 2019. Enough said. Genesis rehab values corporate greed rather than patient need. I expect more layoffs and pay cuts!!!!!

I encourage those of you that were coerced into illegal billing, especially those of you at the DOR level. Comb through emails regarding hitting RU in the year leading up to PDPM. OIG just contacted me #genesisfraud

I have been with the company for nearly 12 years and on October 1 was called down to my PM office sat in front of computer with my area director and HR and read a script.. Your position has been eliminated.... To say that I was shocked would be the understatement of the century. It took all of my composure to not curse someone at.. and break out crying.. but I refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing my cry.. at the end of the call.. I asked how my head was on the chopping block.. she stated due to facility needs/ seniority and job performance.. funny seeing as though the other COTA that stayed had less seniority than I/ I had received a raise approx 6 months prior due to my stellar work performance/ and work in a 300 plus bed facility where they kept 4 PTAs and 2 COTAs.. I was written up on 2 separate occasions due to the fact I took a patient to the bathroom during a group session/ and because I took a pt to the bathroom during a concurrent treatment session.. during a "random" audit.. wtf right I'm in occupational therapy.. that's what we do.. so now I see they were combing through documentation to justify getting rid of therapists.. I've been in an emotional rollercoaster since oct 1.. I'm angry/ I'm in denial/ then I'm accepting of it then I'm angry again.. going through the stages of grief.. there are no jobs in my area.. and I feel defeated at times.. can't believe this happened after 12 years.. I'm in shock

First day of PDPM and every building in my region had at least one layoff (and up to seven) in the therapy departments with no notice and a two week severance package. Layoff criteria based on a rubrik that is hush hush and not being explained. All Med B minutes reduced and all others forcing concurrent and group treatments, which we've been prepped for for months.

Massive layoffs due to PDPM. As high as 50% in some contracted buildings.

There are typically reducing hours of therapist and non-clinical so that the $$ struggle is real and they quit so they don't have to do the whole severance layoff thing. It's working swell actually for Genesis.

They are definitely going to look at layoffs after PDPM and Medicaid explodes. I notice coordinators in PA are either getting laid off or reduced hours, many are covering multiple buildings now. No raises or cost of living adjustments in 3 years. Only matter of time before they get rid of ROCs entirely. Heard they already go without office coordinators in Jersey.
