Just found out a beloved assistant manager was let go due to "restructuring ". He is an excellent leader and hard working, the kind of person you would hope to be able to work with. Married with children, he was blindsided when they let him go. We, the general associates, are saddened both by his our loss and the process he will be undertaking to find another job.
My friend says he's smart and dedicated and will certainly find something better. She's right. I am just so sorry to see how he was treated.
THIS IS WHY BIG LOTS IS PROUD TO BE UNION FREE. If there was a union, half the stuff corporate does would never happen. They count on incoming employees to be unknowledgable enough about unions to believe Big Lots' inaccurate, deceitful description of unions.
Alas, the almight dollar reigns supreme. We have lost a wonderful assistant manager. Our loss, and Big Lots' loss. I hope he finds a job opportunity where his excellence is applauded .

I was on vacation when i heard about the cuts. I had to call to find out i was apart of it. Otherwise they would have waited until i returned the following week to let me go.

Your reg.pay for the last week should have been added to your severance, that is how they did mine. I get no vacation payout because I used more than I earned up until 7/29. When they combined my last regular pay with severance it actually screwed me out of 100 bucks. That, however, does not surprise me.

The workload was already too much, between all the freight, the price changes, haz mat, plus trying to hit all the metrics, and now the stores are going to have to do it with less. The stores, mostly, were not getting it all done, but of course it was ignored if you were one of the favorites of the DM. I knew something was coming when I saw how badly they had cut the hours in the store, but was still blindsided. The funny thing is that the "store of the future" in my market was doing less in volume and sales than other stores that lost their atls, but they were allowed to keep theirs. Meanwhile, you walk into that store, and no one even says hello. But they kept that position in that store because they know how vital it is and they have to make those stores look like they are working.
Meanwhile, the stock is going down in flames. Good luck to the remaining employees and managers because more changes are coming.

Have you checked my big lots? I was let go Monday morning 7/29 and was paid out all of my pay wed 7/31. 3 days for week of 7/28, all pay for 7/14 thru 7/28. Vac and floating holiday, all on 7/31, 3 separate pay stubs. Email Corp at email address for the summer 19 layoffs. This email was in the hyopthetical severance package. I have emailed them few times and they have been very responsive.

We're supposed to get vacation paid out. Where is it. Why didn't we get a small check for what we worked the week of 7-28 and 7-29? I got my severance check but not those two items. I feel like they're going to mess something up.

I've already submitted my words on here, but why the hell do I keep coming back? I'll tell you why, I'd love to see this company fall to shambles, and die laughing. Better now, with a SEVERANCE package, yes I said SEVERANCE! Oooopsie, I wasn't supposed to talk about that. Gonna take away my birthday now, too? Looking like SOTF didn't cut it. Blahhhhahahhahha.

What is incredibly ironic about the Big Lots layoffs is that many people in the corporate office and in the field have this little saying at the foot of their e-mails: "Always treat your customers the same as you would your best customers"

Corporate LIED to WBNS TV 10 Columbus on 8/1 when they reported to the station that ONLY 400 employees were let go...Bruce is PURPOSELY being deceptive, so he can say "Oh, it was a typo!" I KNOW that the lay-offs totaled more than 4000, but Bruce doesn't want to upset current stockholders and potential investors. Bruce is a SELFISH, GREEDY, poor excuse for a human being, and he should NOT be the CEO of ANY American corporation. He ruined Men's Warehouse/Tailored Brands when he was their CEO, and wasn't so great when he was CEO of PetSmart. The remaining Board of Directors (Yes, Bruce got rid of Tim Johnson) should think long and hard if they want to proceed down this morale-busting road...There are MUCH BETTER CEO candidates out there, who don't distort the truth for personal gain!

Just take the severance and look for brighter days somewhere else. Big Lots will choke on their own vomit. The stock is tanking, they are reducing hours more, and they chose to get rid of talented, hard working, loyal people out of greed. None of those things are part of a recipe for success.

Whoever is thinking of "doing" something, if you took the severance just chalk it up to better days ahead, not with it.

I just got an email from Job Sight saying I'm a perfect match for my position at Big Lots. Curiosity got me so I went to Big Lots careers and there it is. They even used the same title. I figured they would at least change the title!
Although I am hurt to know I was discarded after a decade and a half of "above expectation" work, I am proud that I can walk away from such a company. There are better things than to work people so hard that they hurt and have no personal life. As for their future, I do no care. They get what they invest in. They do no invest in employees but invest in bad buys of cheap merchandise...year after year.

Another STL here that just came back from vacation that Monday and was blind-sighted by the rude 8:30 morning phone call from my DM and HR. 10yrs and 2 months of devoted time and not even a thank you. Bruce "the butcher" Thorn doesn't give a rats a–, he's still eating his Lobster and Steak for dinner tonight by candlelight without holding any thoughts or remorse about the many lives he ruined. Yes, there is changes in the retail world, but this was low.

I’m an STL , I was never told about this until the day it happened, I was never asked for my opinion of who to keep . My Atls is capped out and has been here for 9 years , great evals , no coachings , he’s out . But my ATLM who is failing with 4 coachings , he stays. I feel they decided based off pay , who was let go . Because those that were offered the service lead did not lose their hourly rate , just OT and went to 37.5 hours a week. And saying the stores are not losing the man hours , well next 2 weeks I’m forecasted 40 hours less. STL over furniture, Service Lead over cashiers, Floor and hazmat. ATLM over freight , merchandising, Nvo sets, price changes , STS, mark down report , DSD. Yeah this won’t work . 3 days to work truck , 2 days off and 2 days for the ATLM to get everything else done . With turn over so high with unloaders , everyone is always new trying to get freight done isn’t happenin. I work 11 hours a day to get everything done on time , with one ATLM now , it’s just not worth it .

So, Folks, in reality Big Lots Inc. is NOT hurting at all. Per the Yahoo Finance website, as of 5/4/19, Big Lots had approximately $3.05 Billion in Total Assets and $2.4 Billion in Total Liabilities, resulting in just under $650 Million in Net Tangible Assets. This indicates a significant increase in total assets from previous years, plus the 14% Trump Corporate Tax Cut that went into effect last year. Instead of investing in keeping talented, experienced management and improving the infrastructure of the stores, Bumbling Bruce Thorn has decided to slash over 4000 jobs, adversely affecting thousands of their dependents as well. WHY? As stated in his silly NorthStar video, Mr. Greed wants to "double our profit" and move Big Lots into the "top half" of the Fortune 500...Too bad for us that we have the MISFORTUNE of having Butcher Bruce as our CEO! https://mail.yahoo.com/?.intl=us&.lang=en-US&.partner=none&.src=finance

There is WAY BETTER, stay away from other discount retail, 99c dollar tree.... same sh– show, terrible miserable environment.
Everybody handles and processes things differently. Think of everything you accomplished and how hard you worked. You know you can make things happen, when you are ready, use that to build your confidence. Fuel your hate fire for big lots by being amazing somewhere else. Yeah, they let us go over the phone, weak a– pussies. Their loss!!!! When that ship sinks, you will already be established elsewhere and reminisce on this day. FU Big Lots.
