13 years and I've seen this before! Cut back on help, lack of support in all departments. Push to fire or as we say "walked out people". We can't get rid of some of the real problems, upper management. Someone said, "we're becoming Amazon, internet ordering only". Did Lowe's sell out?
I was an FSA and was devastated to learn the job that I took enormous pride in was gone , I love my store, my management, my co workers. I waited until I was offered another position ( about 2 weeks ) only to be offered less than I was making over a year ago when I was a cashier before I went to FSA . I’m confused on how much or how little corporate is really understanding what they are doing. Losing good devoted workers for what ? The almighty dollar which just came out of my pocket and went in their’s . Keep doing what your doing and you won’t have a company . People are smarter than you give them credit for. Customers don’t want you either. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Not gonna happen !
in an odd twist, Home Depot gains thousands of new customers overnight....
Excellent perspective! The truth of success! There is such a paranoid fear of the internet! Corporations are adapting, as well they should. However, people would rather be served and get service, see and touch product and actually understand that they are confident in making a purchase from an informed salesperson rather than a mixed bag of online reviews. Times have changed and all aspects of consumerism are in flux at this time. Your bottom line pyramid will however, not change for some time to come.
The CEO should answer directly to the hourly workers, not the shareholders. There was a pyramid, inverted, showing the importance level of three groups (customer most important, then associates, and then last, management)...this order of importance will be followed by the customers themselves regardless of what happens to Lowes. The associates naturally follow this order of importance by the very nature of retail. Management, at all levels, in every sector of the business world would be wise to understand this. Shareholders, your stocks are worthless without the consumer, and management your careers are built upon the bones of friends you've been forced to betray.
I have steered clear of this conversation for about 12 months. It is all so negative and disconcerting. I have been with Lowe's for almost 6 years. I can't express enough how passionate I felt about my job, the company, my role in its success with my knowledge and lifelong customer service excellence. Change is uncomfortable for most people when it comes down to income and uncertainty. I need to chime in. I work at a great store with an amazing SM, ASMs and Dept Supervisiors. And co-workers, at least those whom which am a am able to recognize. People are leaving en mass. Nobody is happy and customers are feeling it. We are not providing the level of service we have taken so much pride in providing. We are all spread too thin and customers notice it on all levels. Staffing on this low level is effecting the success of our business. Customers are leaving. Foot traffic is slowly diminishing. Sales are down. Morale is in the gutter. Staffing is ridiculous and goals, at least mine, are unattainable. The hours and schedule are toxic to health, living and personal purpose. Having said that, it might be time to stop complaining on forums like this and find what will make you happier!! Open your door and life to something you desire. I know I am working on it. It is so difficult to redirect sometimes. Good luck!! 2542

I was an fsa and did numerous jobs. I seriously think lowes should've paid us 1 wk for every year of service.its not taking long for a new beginning to come.i enjoyed my work at Lowe's and did every day.my wife has been inside since and it doesn't look good
Lowes promised its comission sales employees that they would retain 1/2 their comission based on the last year it was given ("for as long as you remained an hourly wage employee.") This was to make up for the loss of hourly wages as most commissioned employees did not get yearly income raises on our base pay because we made comission. Lowes does not do product knowledge classes like they use to. This will leave Lowes with employees that have no experience that at least us older employees had training on products and sales skills. Now they will have people who have no product knowledge just filling orders not helping and educating customers and putting them with a product that will fit their needs. January will be a sad time in Lowes. I have worked for Lowes a long time and have trained and educated many new employees. But it takes years to learn all things. Sales Specialists took a substantial pay cut years ago. Employees stayed because Lowes at least gave an olive branch and acknowledged the employee as a valued asset. I have been the highest Sale person in every store for almost ever year I have worked if not 1st I was 2nd. Lowes is like the Chinese country they promise to let Hong Kong operate separately for 50 years but now are reneging. Please Lowe don't be like the Chinese communist who reneged on the Hong kong guarentee.
MST team is rumored to be going to overnight schedule as well.
Unloaders who empty the containers will be outsourced next.
Regarding FSA/Assemblers....good riddance! They did minimal. They where good at setting up BBQ'S though...
Shes going down boys get out before it’s to late.(titanic)
Only took about a week for the trash and debris to start piling up outside our stores where our 22 year FSA would frequent. It looks terrible behind receiving outside now.
The 3rd party workers that replaced our two guys? One doesn't speak any English and the other one didn't know you had to add water to the floor scrubber.
I'm positive I'm next, and soon.. as a driver.
I worked at Lowe's for 18 years at the FSA cashier Lauder floor scrubber assisting customers on the floor and given two weeks service pay what did Joe I guess I would have did better in Vietnam but please try to remember what you reap you will sow
I went on vacation last week. I came back to hear that FSA/Assembly were given to a 3rd party. I worked with both of these people for years. Both had been with the company for years. The FSA was really like the mom of the store, she'd get frustrated at times (we all do) but it's because she cared about the store and how people treated it. She's gone... I never got to say thank you for all you did for us, or goodbye. My other co-worker went to assembly after the company dissolved our "down-stock" position. He was there when this store opened its doors. I gotta say he was a bit bossy, extremely detailed oriented and never let the team cut corners. He did this because he loves the store. Again back from vacation and gone. No thank you for helping me become the detailed worker I am today, no goodbye. Who knows what job will be next. Apart of wanting to give your best/be your best is feeling like the company wants to do the same. I'm not getting those kinds of feelings. God Bless :0(
Was told to report to my store manager this past Tuesday (Aug 6) and was informed that our "Allowance" would be discontinued at the start of the next fiscal year. Back when I started (10+ years ago) the sales staff received commissions/SPIFFS for selling certain items. For some of us this made up a significant part of our pay (in my case around 40%) and was used time and time again by management to justify our marginal hourly pay increases. Back in mid 2012 we were informed that the commissions/SPIFFS would be done away with and we would receive an "Allowance" equaling 50% of what our previous years worth of commissions/SPIFFS totaled. We were assured by corporate management (in written correspondence) that these would continue unless we either went into a salaried position or worked in a distribution center. Well flash forward and once again corporate management is reneging on a promise they made. Hopefully Lowe's will be getting hit with yet another class action lawsuit when this happens.
PS. News flash, it's the store employees that keep the customers coming back. NOT corporate, NOT the district managers, and certainly NOT your pathetic third party delivery service. Perhaps when the next employee survey comes out Lowe's corporate will have the balls to ask some pointed questions as to how the employees actually feel about corporate (instead of trying to pin everything on store level management which most of us love). Perhaps then they can actually start to deal with the real problems at Lowe's and might actually have a prayer of catching Home Depot.
I am an LNS, and I have been told that the Costa reps that are there with us are about to take over the garden center, and my position is going away.
The Lowe’s I shop in Hamburg Pa is going downhill fast. Racks and racks of reduced flowers sitting with no prices on them. Pallets of lumber sitting up in the racks and the section below it empty unable to buy it.Trying to find someone knowledgeable in electrical is nonexistent. The irony is eerie the Lowe’s buys Craftsman and does business like Sears did. RIP Lowe’s !!!
Lowe’s going to Hell in a hand basket
District Managers are driving the salaried managers to be total a$$holes to the people and they lead by humiliating managers in front of their hourly associates. Week after week, payroll is blown in order to answer to ever changing layouts and doing tasks multiple times because there is no consistency. hourly managers have to deal with answering calls and text and Whatsapp messages at all hours of the day, even if they are off, on vacation and, get this, on maternity leave. All this is a violation of labor law and is the subject of a class action lawsuit. If you're over 50, you can also bet you'll be on the chopping block. Marvin and his right hand man, Joe, really screwed up JC Penney. Try shopping them today, and you find no selection. What good are decent prices when you don't have selection?
RIP. 😰😰
I'm glad I quit lowes a long time ago talking to the few original people left they have nothing good to say about lowes at all . I feel sorry for the people that have been there 25 years some have not got a dime raise in years. When they first opened it was like family lots of knowledgeable people that cared about the customers now most people aren't there long enough to even learn enough to help people.
Lowes simply could care less. My contractor ordered fencing for a job I had and after a month no product nothing but excuses he went to Home Depot and we had the fencing in a week !!
Great job lowes !! I will never shop there again .. Home Depot is much better and cares about consumers .. RIP in peace lowes you will never touch Home Depot !!
There's another mandatory store manager call at 4pm. Just like last Monday's mandatory call. I'm kinda hoping they call my number this time. If I had wanted to work for Home Depot, I would have applied at Home Depot.
I just heard RTM is going away as well from a trusted manager. I applied for a transfer in the same position and he stated to look at another position.
Regarding the ASA's comment that her position is being eliminated. Has anyone else been told this?
I was an assembler at store 445 Wilmington NC for nearly 7years.
Per company policy I asked for and had been granted(via their 3rd party) a 12 day (96hour) personal leave of absence. As per company policy I requested, was granted and scheduled to use my accumulated sick time to cover my leave.
I received a phone call on the FIRST day of my leave telling me my job had been terminated immediately.
No mention made of my already APPROVED leave time. Was told I would get 80 hours transition pay and would get my 3 days vacation pay(which had been previously scheduled on the front of my leave)
Was told I could apply for any position posted after Aug. 5 but would have to do the interview and screening as if I was a new hire. If hired I would not be able to start until after Auq. 20.
Net was that I would not be paid and therefore forfeit my sick time that was already approved by Sedgwick(their 3rd party) AND Lowe's management.
I understand that life ain't fair and I'm not looking for sympathy.
Truth be told outsourcing store assembly ain't going to work....there is more to it than putting stuff together(which is all that any of the fly by night 3rd party builders do).
There is the customer service, inventory control, stocking and clean-up, NONE of which 3rd party does or because of Lowe's policy is able to do. Not to mention the "I want IT NOW" expectation of the customer.
My opinion is Marvin ain't got a clue.
The Employee Stock Purchase Plan sold discounted shares and within days the stock dropped BELOW the discount price. There is ZERO communication between store management and staff everything comes "trickle down" to the CSA's.
Management follows Corporate Mandates TO THE LETTER, even if they know it is not the correct policy.
A few years back they trimmed the fat off store management but over the past few months have made it obese again with inept and under trained pseudo management positions.
Lowe's will NEVER win the battle over Home Depot......LOWE'S is the follower.....ZERO innovated retail policy. They price match but don't check completions price. They THINK they are building a loyal customer base but that is ancient pre internet thinking. The customer is smarter than the LOWE'S policy makers.
I think Marvin figure just throw it out and if it works great....if it don't then try again.
Keep hiring the bottom of the barrel, tax incentive applicable, underskilled part time employees and Marvin you will be cashing you Golden Parachute soon.
Good Luck to those who where caught in the cut.....to those in MST & Delivery watch your backs.
God Bless AMERICA.
MARVIN & LOWES
GO TO HELL!
Not a leader
So how will you deliver your purchased if they do away with delivery big bust for the business they may as well close the doors. F Lowe’s and Marvin hope he loses everything he has just like the thousand of people that just lost there jobs ‘ karma is a b he will reap this one day . Sorry p o s
Big mistake letting Marvin be C E O he’s the one getting rich. Don’t care about the people that have Lowe’s years of hard work and dedication he’s just putting up a front and getting rich. 12
Worked loyally and happily as an assembler and team player here in IDAHO for 2 years. What a great gig for a retired person. I got the ax over the phone w some cheesy corporate script being read to me about downsizing. After the entire staff busted our asses to make this shop get some serious recognition from the RVP for sales and efficiency, made our store manager look awesome, and all we got was a boot out the door. I’ve worked around the contract assemblers long enough to know and see that they get paid by the widget, not by the quality of what they assemble. From experience, I repaired MANY of their builds. Incomplete and poorly assembled grills and patio furniture, but good enough to push out the door, with missing and broken parts! I pity the loyal customer that buys that c-ap. Lowes “quality” will go down the sh–ter in a matter of weeks. I’m not disgruntled, but seriously puzzled.
“Cost cutting measures” usually means more money in the pockets of corporate leadership - not necessarily stock/share holders. My guess is with this FSA/assembly fiasco is that “someone” on the new corporate “leadership” team has a friend/cousin/mistress who needs to have an entitlement system of payment. At the end of it all, another decent company will be driven out of business because our country is more impressed with “flash” than work performance
Yes I have kept watch and read about various changes. They are minimizing space in all dept.s that sell installs taking away the chairs for our customers and employees. Also are going to third party on installs [ customers are having to be told either you carry the product with you or have it delivered for 75. Extra. ] We have all felt that some changes over time are necessary but things like what I have witnessed lately are unnecessary and not in the least customer friendly. Not sure where it's all headed other than more people out of work less full time seems to be the end goal.
I was hired as an ASA to replace HR. Was told by my HR that the day I started she received a call to not hire any ASA since Corporate was dissolving the position they had just created and hired many people for. I hung around for a couple months and watched daily as my responsibilities dwindled into nothing. So many out of a job so quickly and many more to lose theirs. I can honestly say that the Store managers in my area knew and were told by the District Manager to keep it quiet. (Direct quote from sm and asm) I am just thankful they let me in on it so I could make a decision. No one's position is safe... except pt cashiers.
Apollo Retail Services, Quest Service Group, SAS Retail Services, Anderson Merchandisers, SASR (Set And Service Resources) are the confirmed merchandising companies who “won” contracts to fill in for the fired FSA’s. There could be more, but those five are absolutely confirmed. They hire felons and other trash so good luck with that.
I worked in assembly three years. Also doing back up for delivery and out on the floor with the customers helping them find product. They laid me of off with no notice...
Just had the new cleaning service guy run the floor scrubber into the wall and leave a big hole in it , lol
I have friends in high places @ NC. And it looks like Store Managers are going bye bye. And they are having them become multiple store managers. Example. 1 Store manager helping 3 stores. Get ready Lowe's , times are changing! Especially @1661 and Escondido
I was just layed ff after 10 years with no warning. The severance seems shabby, only two weeks. I think im being f—ed
What is the company?
So far we don’t have a cleaning service or assembly company at my store. Cashiers are cleaning the restrooms, break rooms and managers offices. As far as assemblers goes they are asking people of the sales floor to build things.
Could be my cheap @$$ store manager wanting to show he is ready for a corner office at corporate.
So I bet a whole lot of folks do not realize that the outside assembly vendor is owned by a neighbor of one of the Lowes executives. Collusion anyone.
I worked for Lowe's for a year-and-a-half. Everyday at the associate meeting in the morning or at night the managers would constantly threaten our jobs. The managers at the Beaumont Texas store would brag about how much money the store was making and then tell us that we had to bring in more business. what were we supposed to do drag them in off the street? And it appears that the general manager of the store would be overjoyed if a hurricane were to hit the Beaumont Texas area. They give you a service award one day and then fire you three days later because your fiance or your wife or your husband or your girlfriend was ill and you had to take some time off. Ellison is going to run this company into the ground, he's already started and then he can buy their stock cheap.
