lol...don't blame Alstom for the mess.
It was the hard working and smart executives at GE who happily bought Alstom at a ridiculous price.
@3vvn So true!
Its called Power Service and not Pimp my Ride ! So the the product is something with seriousness!
Let’s all be realistic. Alstom brought slightly cheaper, similar performing steam turbine tech to GE. They brought some steam services opportunities with their historical base. But they brought zero sellable GT tech, and with all of this cAme a 2x increase in headcount. Spin forward to 2018....where we need to cut headcount by about 50%.
The evidence is pretty clear...alstom brought very little value to GE and many liabilities.
@3vvn way to take a swipe at the American worker. If Europeans are better trained and educated it sure doesn’t show in their product innovations or worker productivity. The US leads the in both of those metrics. Don’t delude yourself, you guys’ jobs are protected because your govt would rather a large corporation take care of you than for them to. Simple as that.
This is false ! it's just more difficult in Europe as we have a better protection of the workers as they much more trained ansd educated as the guys in the US.
Its not like in the US where today you work in a bekery and tomorrow in a Power Plant!
You first must get approval from the EU on layoffs because they need to shuffle to make other jobs in other sectors for those laid off. That process takes years (as we are learning). Once they are laid off, they get severance for 2-3 years. However, France has written in more stringent policies than the EU into the Alstom deal. So yes... if the EU says so, when they say so, and as many as they say, if you pay them the severance that they say... its socialism.
Why are you upset when someone is mentioning Alstom? Because you cannot cut head count in EU overnight? Because there are certain rules to follow in EU in this specific case? Or because the US super productive workers are to blame for the current situation?
jeez why would anyone ever want to lay off super-star mega-productive european workers? Blasphemy! Foolishness!!
then its none of your da** buisness eh?
True. If you mean Alstom employees in Europe. 1-2 years notice, veto power for unions, severeance payment rules ..it is impossible to cut head count quickly.
Clever Alstom board - saved their shareholders from a disaster and put it on on an American company.
They already have, by the thousands...and more to come. JI was a mo--n, and another company actually hired this clown as CEO.
Long live Alstom
False-just more difficult in Europe.
