State Farm Mocks Lemonade's Use Of AI, Doubles Down On 48,000 Human Agents--Not A Great Idea

State Farm's mockery of insurtech, AI and bots is backfiring big time! To me, as a former employee, this just exposes State Farm for who they really are: an old and crusty company, set in their ways, and resistant to new technology. They sound like Blockbuster video insisting that people want the experience of browsing for videos to rent in a brick-and-mortar store. Agents are the past, not the present or future. Hoping for a change at State Farm for friends and family still there. Not holding my breath. Check out the links below.

I don’t think AI would even put up with all this c-ap we deal with in the insurance market everyday. I got a couple of claimants I could send there way. AI would say what the F.

AI is a "buzzword" at this point that companies are trying to use to prove to stockholders that they are innovative. Even though SF is not publicly traded, I saw our executives playing the same game until we proved to them that IBM's Watson was not what IBM claimed it was.

Happy for the new hires that they are learning and moving on as the previous poster stated. These "newbies" are the ambitious and innovative fresh faces that SF needs the most, says this old fart...ha ha. Yet, State Farm has historically not be listened to or worse yet even maligned those that bring new ideas. I saw it once too often during my tenure. The answer may or may not be bots or AI, but State Farm better wake up and start taking some chances and experimenting with new technology. Bashing new and innovative ideas is not a good look or a strategy for that matter.

stupid auto-correct: delusions of grandeur

I would venture a guess that 'golden handcuffs' describes the vast majority of current SF employees.

Rest are new hires and people who hope to gain some experience and then move on.

Very, very small percentage are harboring disillusions of grandeur as to their role in the company. Even smaller misguided group think they can still have any kind of meaningful career with the dinosaur this once great employer has become.

We are just resources, not valuable employees and entire departments can be cut on a whim.

OP here. Hahaha! The reason I'm a former employee is that I removed the golden handcuffs and left an employer with a toxic culture that refuses to innovate and evolve. Now I work for a company that encourages and rewards new and innovative ideas. State Farm will be a case study alongside Kodiak and Blockbuster Video. They snub their nose at technology and say it's all about the human interaction. State Farm is going to lose the younger demo and digital natives that want technology and don't want to drive to an agent office to sit down and fill out insurance paperwork.

48,000 was what the article said. I think the Forbes writer probably meant 48,000 employees. Regardless, this is spot on.

Maybe agents and team members equate to 48,000?

There’s just no way the OP worked for SF, or if they did, they weren’t well informed. 48,000 agents? C’mon, bot.
