Operating department is now 2 regions instead of three (North and South); Denver, Livonia, St Louis, Sunset, and Twin Cities service units are gone. CC&S is now in operating rather than M&S. Workforce reduction of approximately 475 in the fourth quarter. Additional 200 contract positions are eliminated. Impacted is systemwide and not limited to HQ. General and administrative support will be cut by "roughly 30 percent through 2020".

if UP lays off less than 500 people in a 30 day period, they don't have to abide by the "WARN" act : Mass Layoff: A covered employer must give notice if there is to be a mass layoff which does not result from a plant closing, but which will result in an employment loss at the employment site during any 30-day period for 500 or more employees,
