@ 1xle I am just opposite now. I worked in Bentonville at the HO for 7 years before going remote. It was 100% WM there. After I went remote for 3 years (with a total of 10 years there) I realized WM didn't have a very good selection or even prices. My world opened up to Trader Joe's, CostCo, Whole Food and Kroger in my area. I also have Aldi, Meijer and many more independent grocers.
Loyalty only gets you so far.
WM doesn't have the best prices anymore. Kroger has individual Larabars for 99 cents each daily. WM has them for $1.49. WM is, far too often than not, out of stock on items I want. Then I have to make a second shopping trip. If they actually have bison in stock it appears to be of lower quality than the other brands I have bought. WM doesn't have good variety. I have food allergies so I shop from a limited list that WM doesn't have. WM's organic produce looks like it was brought in by the Pony Express.
So many reasons to use them as a last resort.
