On October 14, 2018, Mr. Lampert stepped down as Chief Executive Officer of the Company. He will continue to serve as Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors (the “Board”). To fulfill the responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer, the Board has created an Office of the Chief Executive, which will be composed of the following officers of the Company: Robert A. Riecker, Chief Financial Officer, Leena Munjal, Chief Digital Officer, and Greg Ladley, President of Apparel and Footwear.

This is so Lampert isn't at the helm for the bankruptcy and allows him to more easily plunder whatever remaining assets without creating a sense of impropriety. This also buffs the resumes of the "Office of Chief Executive" appointees to make their resumes look more positive.

This isn't a "let's fix it" situation. This is a "let's make sure the Lampert is unshackled by any regulations for any last minute plunders and tweak the CVs of the executive toadies so they can land gracefully elsewhere.
