Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How many Sears and Kmart employees are truly unaware to what is about to happen?

I'm sure every Sears and Kmart employee knows to varying degrees how the company is struggling. I do wonder though if any of them out there are completely unaware about what is about to happen? Management would be doing themselves a disservice by losing people if they told the truth.

If some employees never watch the news and they never hear anything from anybody these people are going to be caught by total surprise. They are used to seeing Sears and Kmart drag on for so long that I think they get complacent. They think that the dangerously low foot traffic, butchered pay roll, dwindling inventory, lack of investment in the stores, stores constantly closing around them, etc. is completely normal because it is what they are used to.

At best, Sears reaches a $500 million emergency financing deal, closes 150 stores immediately and makes it through the holidays. After that, who knows?

At worst, the deal falls through, Chapter 7 is filed and the doors are locked at all 700 stores. They open their doors again but this time to be liquidated.

I don't believe that there are many Sears associates in the dark in regard to the condition of the company.....Aside from TV and newspapers, Most people these days own a computer, laptop, smartphone, etc with the internet at their fingertips....so there is not much reason for anyone to be clueless as to what is going on in the world around them.

$500 million financing does nothing. We’re burning $400m+ every quarter. It’s completely unsustainable.

"lower-level people who put up with this because they are easily manipulated and can't/don't want to see what is really going on".... It's a part-time job. The majority of PT retail jobs are Bulls*&t , mind numbing, non skilled labor. Punch in, do your time and go home. It's not that hard to find another one,

Until recently, I worked for Sears (12 years) so I can answer your question. There are only two kinds of people left at Sears:

1) Managers, DMs, Regionals, etc. who get paid considerable salaries for doing essentially nothing except justifying their existence by creating hoops for lower-level people to jump through. In AP, you can multiply this x1000.

2) lower-level people who put up with this because they are easily manipulated and can't/don't want to see what is really going on.

It really is that simple.
