Massachusetts... also have a few enhancements to their benefits due to state laws.

If the law is 1.5 times on Sundays, OT as hours over 40 each week would have to be paid as double time. Because it's the last day of the pay week, you wouldn't be able to balance hours by trimming a future day.

So yeah, OT would be stupid for labor budgets.

The current law in MA for Sundays:

Retailers that employ more than 7 people, including the owner, are required to compensate employees who work on Sundays, except for bona fide executive, administrative, and professional employees, at a rate of pay not less than 1 and a half times their regular rate.

It's a Mass law. The proposed changes to the law are as follows:

https://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2018/06/massachusetts_is_on_the_verge.html

The proposal in Massachusetts calls for time-and-a-half pay (currently 150 percent of your wage) falling to 140 percent of your wage on Jan. 1, 2019; going down to 130 percent on Jan. 1, 2020; 120 percent on Jan. 1, 2021; and falling to 110 percent in Jan. 1, 2022. It's completely phased out on Jan. 1, 2023.
