Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Hiring Question

I applied to over 10 jobs with Windstream over the last two months. I received 6 denial emails within 10 minutes this morning right after 6AM. I received two more later in the morning. I have had two interviews; one per HR guidelines and one not. What should I make of this? Serious replies please and thanks!

You shouldn't stress about the denial's this is the Windstream way. Your better off at another company. The only ones getting hired in anymore and ones promoted are either managers or the managers buddies. They actually hired someone into IP NOC that can't even explain what an IP Address is.

One below you are one hundred percent correct. Some don’t realize how good they have it until it is gone. My department is stuck more or less. No person has moved from our group in years despite how many times someone has applied out. We believe that our upper manager has something to do with that. One day a position opened. Three people from our department applied, and all three of us got interviewed. It was for three positions. One of the people got it. It has been amazing because since then this person has put a fire and motivated other people to apply for other positions too, some inside this company, and some out . Since then, I applied outside and received an interview with a competitor and others have shown interest too. You do not mean anything to them, and the only time you do is when you turn in your notice. I want this job. I do the work of five people. I have applied countless times, and have been rejected so many times, one time within the same day. I am the only one who does what I do, and if they lose me they are stuck up the hill.

I know I will be where I am at for life. I have accepted it. My colleagues do too. I confronted my manager too about it, and she made me out to be crazy. She said she wanted me to be nothing but successful and wanted us to move up. I said no. You want your good employees to stay grounded because your messed up without us, and when some of us leave you will not know what to do. The people she has angered currently are those you do not need to anger. She doesn’t know how good she has it until it’s gone.

Funny how you can apply time after time only to get the “after careful consideration” email. If I didnt get an interview how careful was the consideration. Yes the bosses friend got the job or a family member. Then there are those sups that keep the good workers stuck in a dead end job because they need someone to actually work since they promoted all the croonies to easy jobs. Does anyone really wonder why we are upset and morale is so low???

Because like someone said nepotism at its finest. I saw a past supervisor who was hired for a position that did not even exist until I saw him move upstairs. This position was not even posted. I know this because my friends told me so. How did he get a job that doesn’t exist? I applied for a position, interviewed, and was told that the position was placed on hold for the meantime. Two days later, the position was put out on indeed. These past supervisors and team leads are moved around from department to department and given promoted positions that do not even exist whilst good workers are left by the wayside.

It is okay to be bitter because I have applied multiple times, and have not heard anything. I also think that your upper management could also have something to do with it. If you are a good worker they may prevent you from leaving. The next time I apply is when I leave this company.

There's seems to be a great deal of turmoil within the company with this IT outsourcing to India deal with IBM and HR is probably heavily impacted. I would guess they have had little time to update the jobs board. Are the jobs still "available"?

Just because WIN posts a job does not mean they are looking to fill it. And like others have said, if it is a position they want to fill you can bet the hiring manager already has promised the job to friend or relative. A position for my dept is showing 2 open positions and are listed on INDEED. But our entire IT group is getting let go 10/1. Outsourced to IBM in India. Any IT job opening you see posted is not going to be filled, most of IT from the helpdesk to database admins are eliminated on 10/1.

I applied for several positions but I was rejected for each one almost immediately as well. It seems like they don’t want people with advanced degrees and a plethora of knowledge moving up. I automated my position entirely yet Windstream’s choice was to just outsource.

Why would you want to work for a sinking ship?

This place is one big pot of nepotism. Others with a chance come from the military. WS is very controlling so they make a perfect fit.

Unless the jobs were entry level they are already tagged by the hiring manager for one of his friends. This practice has been institutionalized since Buddy Bayer came on board a few years back and brought so many of his cohorts to Windstream.

I have tracked several job postings only later to see a job's location change to where another of his cronies lives who then coincidentally is hired for the job. These same individuals are then promoted repeatedly; sometimes multiple promotions within a year. This cronyism policy results in monthly re-organization of departments and now this practice is now dribbling down to all management within the BB organization. Surprised the Board of Directors allows this to occur but they have been asleep at the wheel for quite some time now.

As an active employee with many years of service and a military veteran, I was talking to an HR vet specialist about an open job posting. It was very disheartening to have him say he couldn't offer me as much money as he could a new hire, but if I was to actually quit then I could probably hire back in at a higher salary...I will never understand their chess game of financials or believe much of what they say. I have since taken a buyout and my twenty years of experience to a competitor that actually cares and WIN lost a dedicated employee and many customers along the way.

If you're still interested in employment there, I'd suggest to not get your hopes too high and make the most of each day and learning opportunities. The odds are pretty high it won't have much longevity to it and there are other companies out there looking for talent.

You are existing in a stagnant environment, they want to hire less qualified at a lower pay rate

The whole idea is to kill Windstream, why would they put someone in a job that can do the job.

Either it was filled internally or they laid the empty seat off. As in the lower management went through the motions of gathering candidates just to have the rug pulled out by the VP.

More importantly read this board and get hired with caution.
