Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Number 1 IT Company in The World

I've been on here quietly reading the posts and I have to say there is a lot of negativity openly expressed. I suspect most of it is from people who got LR'd and are bummed to be out of the easiest place to make money one can think of.

Cisco is without any doubt the number 1 IT company I know of. Even beyond IT... I speak to friends who work for major law firms and banks. They all work stupid hours and earn less then me, sitting at home all day, responding to the odd email and taking an important customer for lunch twice a week. Last year I made over $450K and spent most the year in the gym and fixing my house up and playing with my kids. Tell me what other company in the world would pay you this for such little effort?

Some of you might say I'm just some deadwood but I would disagree as I have smashed my number every year for 10 years at Cisco, so I'm doing what the company asks of me and more.

I've thought about the risk of being LR'd and where I would go. It's a very frightening thought of going somewhere else and having to work any harder.

So I say if you're on this wonderful train, enjoy it for as long as it lasts and make your precious life about something other then work.

The OP posts this every 6 months or so. Obviously an id--t that did get LR'd and can't let it go...

These sorts of salaries are not common outside the US. And then everyone wonders why Cisco are moving jobs elsewhere

I must be in the wrong profession at Cisco because I’m nowhere near $250k never mind $450k— Wow. They need to do some wealth distribution.

Yeah, that was basically my experience at Cisco as well, though I was a technical manager and not in sales. Also, I didn't quite make as much money as you, but still made good money for my part of the country. 250k a year which is far in excess of what is required to live well in Texas.

I noticed there are a lot of coasters like us at Cisco, actually, I'd say we are probably the norm here.

I'm a current employee of Cisco for past 12 years and Cisco is a place to make tons of money. I'm reading this site for the last 4 years, as the LRs has increased a lot, whether you smash the target or not. I have seen many efficient sales guy who have joined other biggies and startups and are making them stronger every day. Also, I'm observing a lot of guys who are surviving in Cisco just by their PR with the high ups without doing any work. This is making the number 1 company hollow from within. I have no second doubts that we are going the semiconductor industry way, trusting on newly acquired company for the returns.
