Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

November layoffs

Get ready folks, they're coming. And it's not going to be pretty by the looks of it.

Honestly, anybody who is still at Mattel and is not actively looking for other employment is a mystery to me.

This company is going down. It's long stopped being a question of if, and turned into a question of when.

First off, just because previous layoffs had severance packages doesn’t mean you’ll get the same .....or even get one at all. Unless you had a contract (EVP and above only), you’re an at-will employee - which means the company can terminate you whenever they like for no reason.

Secondly, all the talented people already left Mattel - whomever is left is either too young to know better, a design hack or an engineer that’s turned into a project manager. All disposable and cheap.

And don’t get me started about the entire Barbie team. Here’s a group that hasn’t been able to make anything of material increase in profit happen in 10 years. Honestly, if they all got fired tomorrow, Do you think the brand would be any worse off? Not only has Barbie never changed her core format 11.5” fashion dolls), she’s never developed a personality or story worth waking up from a nap for. Cut Best and all the others, Re/launch old skus and milk that brand like the cow she is (or should I say “was”?)

We’re all in a race in leave and no one wants to be last. It’s a sinking 🚢 ship. Jump ship now, grab a life vest and find a job or some exit strategy. If you’re still here then you’re still useful but for how long? Who knows...

Nothing guaranteed.

There is no requirement in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for severance pay. Severance pay is a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee (or the employee's representative)

Hope you get a package. At IBM, they capped all severance at a max of 1 month pay.

There's nothing much out there in the toyland and I'm 19 years on the ship. Can't jump ship and give up the package. I guess I'll just wait and go down with the ship one day, so depressed!
