Seriously, I’ve seen some solid folks get layed off today. Like folks who are top performers that I’ve worked with. And some that I was still working with. FOLKS WE SHOULD NOT BE LOSING! Some in Land/Surface Land, some in Projects, and one other in Supply Chain. And I know they didn’t EOI. What in the hell is this company doing?!? Is this honestly happening right now. Someone has their head screwed on backwards is all I can say. These folks were ones that arguably the company could not afford to lose. But again, they’ve managed to be complete id--ts (what’s new?) and run talent and quality out the door. This company is going to Hell in a Handbasket and quickly! I am ashamed to say that but it’s true. 🙄.

Guess like everything else that is backward here, we push out and layoff the best instead of the “needs improvement.”
Excuse me - iPhone typos. I meant “let the best EOI or lay them off”
That’s been the case since 2015 - keep the dregs, let he bear EOI or lay them off.
It’s becoming a bit of a clown college
Very true. I used to work there in Land. It’s a toxic cut throat environment. All the manager does is sit there and use big catchy corporate buzz words/phrases and then look at you all like, well, is that all? Total silence in the room. And then everyone leaves. It’s the dumbest thing I ever sat through in my entire life. But hey, that’s most career managers for ya. Best thing I ever did was leave a while back. Soooo much happier where I’m at now!!! Good luck to all!!!
Definitely some sweetheart deals being struck for “friends of managers”. Sickening, but that’s the oil industry so s--- it up losers.
It’s not what you know or what expertise or value you contribute, it’s who you know, how well you Brown Nose, and how good you are at PowerPoint and talking smoothly.
This time around it seems that staff who EOI'd were not just 'close to retirement' employees, but <10 year (even <5 year) staff who can't see any future in COP. That might be a serious indicator of how deep some of the problems have become.
I don’t know if it’s wise to use people’s names or not even if it’s anonymous. I know the Surface Landman they’re talking about though. Worked with him before in eagle ford. Solid guy. A definite loss. Just s---s!
Really? Is Land really getting hit hard today? Would not have thought Land would get it too bad. Both surface and mineral land are super busy in Permian. I don’t get this at all? Anyone else in Land get let go? Can someone say who got let go? Since this is anonymous and all. Who got laid off?
Don’t know about point #1, but I know the individual in this forum and he’s definitely #2 thru #4. Guess when you know more or know better than someone above you they hate you for it atbtjis company. But yet, we are encouraged to speak out right?!? We are encouraged to constructively challenge the status quo right?!? We are encouraged to “drive the bus” right?!? We are encouraged to leverage our knowledge right?!? What a complete joke! This guy probably has something else already lined up anyways and got a huge payout today. Our loss is someone else’s gain I guess.
Oh no. No, no, no. You must be mistaken. If they were layed off they must have been “poor performers.” SMH. Sarcasm.
On a serious note, it’s one of the following: 1. they “cost too much.” 2. they are older than 30, so it’s time to run them off. 3. they didn’t tow the line and possibly spoke the truth at some point. 4. They didn’t kiss up to their manager, and possibly looked at their manager the wrong way once.
We’re circling the drain people.
Yep, I know of a Surface Landman that was let go today that made my jaw drop. Been with the company for years. I was in one of his training courses last year. Great guy! Very knowledgeable guy. What a shame. What’s funny though is those folks will be scooped up so quickly by a competitor and could be working against us at some point. Just don’t understand what this company is thinking. We are literally the only ones laying folks off. And good ones at that. So crazy!
It is so true.
