Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Don't panic if you are laid off

Whatever we might think about Qualcomm and however many bad comments pop up here, it still looks great on a resume to potential employers.

I know many people don't think so, but trust me when I tell you, it's a huge asset for you.

Former Qualcomm employees are snatched from the job market quickly for a reason.

If you take full advantage of it, you will have no issues finding a new job.

Qcom on your resume looks good. Regardless of what's going on internally, externally people still think highly of Qcom. I got many interviews from Linkedin because of Qcom on my resume, and finally got hired in a FAANG.

Passing the interviews is easy. You just have to be able to code.

You won't have a problem getting an interview considering how hungry silicon valley companies are for talent. However passing the interviews is not easy and needs lots of prep. QCT experience useless for that and won't help at all.

Getting laid off was the best thing that happened to me in quite a few years. Landed at a much better company. My QCT experience is pretty much useless, new place not interested in geo-sourcing. No a33holes in management, hardly any PMs and they have to generate their own status. There is life outside the Q!

Doesn't mean jack one way or the other.

I'd rather have someone on the inside give me a recommendation, that is gold.

Pfffft to the naysayers... Some people just get off on other peoples mis-fortune. Ive worked at all the large tech employers in SD and thet ALL have issues. But good companies rarely hire bad talent and they all know that.

Sorry but as far as know NO-ONE is hiring people from Qualcomm, is bad luck plus they believe the people left behind are just the left overs. Sorry but having Qualcomm in your resume is not going to help in Dan Diego. Good luck

Too many delegated the not-fun parts of the job to others. That doesn’t fly with smaller companies.

Coworkers from Broadcom have back-to-front hardware experience my startup employer needs, especially interfacing with ODMs in Asia.

The people we interview from Qualcomm today are too focused on only one part of the task.

Good luck with Google, Microsoft, and Apple.

I concur with OP. Most people in tech and more importantly recruiting understand the nepostism, favoritism and tribalism that exists within Qualcomm. Trust me, most companies have the same problems most to a lesser degree.

With that said...you need to do the foot work. Apply for jobs, network, update the CV, skills refresh (ie trends in code, firmware, etc.)....this is the time to shine. The more effort you put into the job search (if this is your path) the better matched position you will find.

Think of this as your wife divorce you for another man (or woman) and now you look for better wife that won't cheat or stab you in the back. You are more likely to better prepare and of course choose more wisely.

Agreed. I am not hr poster boy but all my team members who were laid off are in a better position now.
