When they tell associates about the severance package must vary from store to store. After they announced that our store was closing the severance package was brought up in a matter of a few days. Specifically, they wanted to make it absolutely clear that you had to stay on through the liquidation process and then be released in order to collect severance pay. Everyone in our store that was eligible for the severance package stayed on, however, some were released before the store finally closed. I was released a week before the store was handed over to the mall and I received my severance pay without a hitch.

I would think they would want you to quit so they wouldn’t have to pay it. Is it 30 or 35 hours per week?
@2fyf They didn't tell us about it until the last day when our Sears store actually closed and turned out the lights. Our store manager said the reason they didn't tell anybody is because they didn't want anyone to quit. Also, what you have heard is correct. One of my former fellow employees took another job and Sears immediately stopped paying his Transistion Pay. Read the post from 2twl. He is 100% correct. Sears does NOT pay true Severance. Sears pays Transition Pay which is different. I consulted a lawyer as well. Be very careful and read the whole contract including the fine print so you make an informed and educated decision. Good luck.
Is it 30 or 35 hours a week pay?
@@V5IVSI8-1jbn I wish I was even getting $2.00! After 21 years, no severance because I am part-time.
How long after they announced you were closing did they tell you about servance pay?
Been 3 weeks and nothing has been said. I have heard it’s done as pay and you can’t take another job or you lose it.
Sears does NOT due true severance pay. Sears does Transition Pay which is technically different and more advantageous to the employer at the expense of the employee. Do some research and you will see what I mean. Our Sears store just closed last month and one of the long term full time employees had his wife who is an attorney review it. She couldn't believe what Sears was doing to the employees. Read the documents very closely, especially the fine print, before you make up your mind. For some it is advantageous. For others watch out.
Severance packages are at the discretion of the company. As of today only full time employees get severance. For those full time employees, who have worked at least a year or more, you get one weeks pay for every year to a max. of 8 years. This means if you have worked full time for two years you get two weeks pay, if you have worked six years you get six years pay, if you have worked 8 or more years you get 8 weeks pay. So if you have worked 25 years you still only get 8 weeks pay.
If you spent 10 years as a part time worker and the last 5 years as full time, you get 5 weeks pay.
They take your average pay from that time period to determine your severance.
Managers get up to a max. of 26 weeks pay.
Part time workers get nothing
But that can end at any time and it can be reduced at any time. IF the company files BK there will be no severance.
OP You get to choose which part they sever. Hey its better than some other posters. If they do go bankrupt you get nothing and they don't have to give you anything if they don't. Those things are true.Good Luck .
IN BK the new owners have no obligation to pay severance. They want to get paid themselves.
And the dirt bag w the potty mouth ur disgusting
So when do they announce this
All FT employees get 50 cents for every year of service( caps out at $5)
All PT employees get 25 cents for every year of service (caps out at $2)
To get the severance package you have to sign an agreement to s--- Eddie's nut sack whenever requested, in perpetuity
He's insinuating that SHLD will be declaring bankruptcy therefore nobody will get severance.
Why wont there be a severance anymore?
After Friday there will be no severance package
