No question GE Schenectady is being considered a central site for all of power. Sure they will still have to deal with cheaper vendors for nuts and bolts but anything below the Mason-Dixon line as well as over-seas has proven to be disastrous for GE.

That may be true about Ge Hungary. But they do not have nearly the capacity Schenectady does.
I forget
Actually, if you look at GE Hungary is by far the most cost efficient sites, while also having the best quality.
GE should move out of Greenville. Greenville could use that location for an industrial plant that actually makes a profit. The pseudo intellectual culture of GE is at the point of no return. GE's crash will be studied for many years of how not to manage a company.
Don't count your chickens before they come home to roost.
Sounds like a great idea. GE should put all their eggs in one big basket located in Schenectady! What could go wrong?!?! It's not like the Union would then start threatening a strike to shot the whole place down unless they get paid $60 an hour to push a broom! I'm sure the Local and State Government would never think that GE is not trapped and it would become the perfect time to just pump their taxes up! Can't anybody here think more than 5 seconds into the future?!?! If GE does this, it'll be a short term gain and then followed by a huge long term loss!! I'm sure the only ones hoping for this to happen are the ones who'll be retired in less than 5 years and think they won't suffer from the fallout later on down the road. Stay Classy fellow Coworkers!! No wonder everybody is eating their own around here!!
I was in a meeting and overheard something that they let slip and that Schenectady’s so much better at everything forever.
I’m in those meetings. The statement that Schenectady’s margins are better then Greenville’s is very true.
Union slobs don't bring in more profits. Not sure who told you that. But by all means, don't let us distract you from browsing facebook on company time.
Schenectady has a gas turbine test stand also not sure why people keep talking about Greenville being so important because of this. And even if they didn’t a test stand doesn’t mean they can’t sh-- down manufacturing there.
Anything below the Mason Dixon line? I'm still trying to figure out how you boys managed to put in a whole coil while forgetting to braze on the bottom jumper!? Schenectady, central site for GE power manufacturing because its just like putting together cheap furniture, just follow the pictures... Service on the otherhand, isn't an animal that Schenectady can handle...
The 200 million dollar test stand is in GVL. GE can not sell turbines without that.
we gotta stop talking about tears and move on to the next thing which is bilding the greatest turbines in the world all these people are hirting our moxie we need to act like 29 time world champion ny yankees and not some looser confederates.
Face it the union in Schenectady provides the highest quality work for the lowest $/hr. Yes we get paid more than the billies but we are way more producive so you know the finance wigs will look at it and do the right thing and clothes the Gville plant. I was hear when they move the equipment away and now wheel see it back to schenectady. Long live 301!!
supply chain velocity
They need a site in the eastern hemisphere due to supply chain velocity. There have been no meetings on closing Schenectady. There have been meetings on changing what they do there and at what capacity. Greenville on the other hand being the more exspensive to run and maintain not the same result.
Discussed? It's already been decided. GE is going to shut both sites down, eliminate it's costs entirely and make HUGE profits all off the backs of the little guy.
You can deny this all you want but I can assure you it is being discussed.
Why do you even still have a union? Your own union runs over you more than GE does to us in Greenville. They're bending over backwards for GE... hope it's worth it for you, but that's doubtful.
When the oatmeal went away, so did the turbines...ya'll.
Hi there Local 301 poster.
