I don’t have anything more nice to say about the ignorance, so I won’t say anything more.
It’s not these kids’ fault that they think it’s performance related when an employee is let go. They are told that we keep 10-15% contingent workforce so that the contingent workers get laid off during these times and not employees (bahahaaaa!).
So if someone age 50 made it through 10 rounds of layoffs before you were even in college, and now they’re laid off in round 14, they’re a “poor performer?” You will become very accustomed to layoffs in this industry. If you had not experience md them before, due to your being relatively new to the industry, then please make a note: there is not always, or even often, a reason anyone was targeted. None of us is immune. Often times it is not performance, but the whim of “Joe Manager” above who dictates your fate. Perhaps you looked at said manager the wrong way once, or somehow irritated them. They will have an easier time sleeping at night by picking that person than someone else.
A monkey could do the entry level positions they have posted right now but I’m sure they won’t offer it to one of us being walked out today. I also disagree about poor performers....after this many rounds surely they elimated that.
iwox, any person let go is suddenly labeled a poor performer. Actually, if you receive a low rating, it’s a signal to tell you to quit before you are layed off.
So after four rounds of redundancies during this downturn, who really believes there are still many poor performers?
Still need fresh blood for our “leaders” to “manage” so they can feel important.
Because the job postings are for people with skills not available in the company. And most of the people being let go are poor performers.
