Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

Layoffs not coming?

Waited for layoffs. The dates posted on here came and went. Please don’t play with my emotions. I was really happy for a second.

Anyone else hear about layoffs the end of the month? Just wondering if they are true.

People. Seriously. Think. UOP has a major HLC visit this year. There will be no major restructuring until that is completed. You are safe until they are safely through that. Then, watch your back.

These past few posts have been accurate of what’s going on. They are obviously experienced and know the climate of the company and how it is to work for these people. A lot of the posts resonated with me, as they are all speaking the truth. But I did like the part of the last post, where it was said the managers and directors want more but cannot offer any decent coaching on how to do this. Very true. They expect more production with less resources and can’t coach any reps up on how to do this. I hear managers are basically saying to just take the application and go over tuition, financial aid and the “important” stuff “later.” Yes also true, UOP seems to be going back to the enrolling for reward structure. Enrollments for shift bids and keeping your job. A perfect storm to jam students up, get them into class and then see them fail. UOP, providing debt with an education that isn’t recognized in the real world. I wish they weren’t so greedy.

I pretty much only see the same implementations in enrollment. There is no innovation. Reg and retention for shift bid? Remember what happened and how reps behaved when we were motivated the same way except for money? Reg for reg sake personal gain and not student interest. Many of us have been and continue to be successful reps by putting the student first. If you make so many dials it equals so much contact to so many apps equating to so many refs..OUT OF DATE THINKING. Students want personalized attention, UOP is not so special, students can go anywhere. Students want to communicate electronically. What on earth could potentially differentiate us to grab a bigger piece of the market? Reps are the business and shift bid and not getting writtep is our only motivation. More more more with less less less. It is a terrible culture right now for some. Management no longer filters the pressure they are under. No one wants to introduce new ideas or attempt to fix what is not working for fear of stirring the pot. Culture of FEAR. Fabulous, I’m so proud, let’s just keep doing all the same things we did to screw ourselves before. Turning over reps for performance? Can we really afford to do that? Are managers legitimately qualified to help reps become more efficient produce at a higher volume, truly be developed. Most of my day is spent ignoring these f-tards and continuing to adapt to student demands. Why is it so hard to figure out, we have a school of business for goodness sakes, does anyone know how to practice basic management and operational principles? It’s embarrassing.

This quote, "There are many veteran advisors who can convert the hell out of these students if given decent leads to work. " is part of the problem. There needs to be quality in the classroom regardless of who is top. Right now, there is no respect in the marketplace for a UOP degree. Let's be honest- too many facilitators phone it in. They copy and paste posts, glance over assignments and assign random grades. Converting prospective students will only be helpful if the education improves. There's a long way to go for that to happen.

Wow! The post below is dead on! I have been here 15+ years on the enrollment side and I can tell you this is 100% correct. The post is correct about all the overpriced VP’s and directors. It’s a joke. Mangement can’t admit they have a problem and this top heavy ship is going to sink. REMEMBER THIS..they are paying all these big salaries to directors and VP’s and NOTHING has changed. We are not growing or meeting goal. How long have these people been in their position? 5 years? 10 years? My point, they have proven they cannot do their job and get us on track, from systems, to leads, to personel....we could go on for days......they have failed! Yet, still have their jobs. Let that sink in.

The real problem is the overpaying of VP’s Brett, Chris and Maria. Along with these money pits you have a bunch of senior directors who also contribute nothing on a day to day basis yet command a hefty salary for their lack of knowledge and leadership skills. Nobody knows when these people are actually at work or if they are sitting at home, bottom line, cut the dead weight at the top and remove a few overpaid EMs who don’t add any value and put this money towards the frontline and better leads. There are many veteran advisors who can convert the hell out of these students if given decent leads to work. Unfortunately these changes will never happen and UOP will continue to overpay their “leadership” team who bring nothing of value to the table and have lost all respect of those on the floor. We all know that working from a laptop and sending out an email here and there doesn’t justify those bi-weekly 5k+ paychecks!

Makes no sense to cut more from marketing. Any information on their restructure and if it will focus on lead quality?

Wayyyyy to many enrollment VP’s, directors, senior mo--ns, etc. My enrollment team talks about this all the time. We are too top heavy. It doesn’t make sense to have all these “leaders.” Cut the fat already!

Why let go of marketing when our quality of leads are very low already? How do they expect to get better leads with less marketing?
