Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Should I leave for lower pay?

I got a job offer recently that offers lower pay (around 15 percent less) but better conditions overall (including job security.) At the time I prioritized money, but now I'm thinking I might have made a big mistake.

Now I'm thinking of checking if the offer still stands and if it is I'm thinking of taking it. Should I do it? Or stick it out here in hopes it'll get better?

Run as fast as you can, Gf has relied on the vendor to limp them along all these years, they can’t do it forever. Sinking ship, the company is full of incompetence.

Thanks for the responses, this was my thinking as well but I guess I needed a little push.

Yes, you should absolutely leave. You clearly have 1 foot out the door, what’s holding you here? Do you love the work? Do you enjoy us here? Some of us here truly love it, wish you well but would rather have someone fully committed. Control what you can control

If you want to have lay off package, then you can wait for few more months and then switch.

I 'm one of the GF employees who went through the "involuntary separation program" in 2016. Had a hard time to find a comparable job in East Coast area. Then I got an offer from Silicon valley with 40% higher salary compared. This still can't compensate the much higher living cost in CA., but I enjoy my work and life here and regret that I rejected some offers in 2013.

The chance to find another job is still good now. Do you want to wait until GF starts the next layoff wave, possibly in a downturn?

If you need to work at least 10 more years and it truly has better job security than take it!

Agree with previous poster, take it and run. Here you know what to expect, you have already seen it and felt it. You have nothing to loose by taking that offer, you have nothing to gain by staying.

My husband got laid off this around. Right now, both of us think that the job security is more important than wages if local living expenses are not extremely high like Silicon Valley , CA. Actually, GF's salary is higher than many companies in surrounding area. Sometime, it's hard to match your previous wage if you try to locate a new job nearby. Then , you need check if this offer is reasonable in the local area.

Take it! I recently did the same because the conditions were so stressful and I waited for 2.5 years and kept telling myself it would get better. During that 2 years I caught just about every illness that went around and never felt good. I made the switch about 5 months ago and haven't had one sniffle, find myself springing out of bed at 5:00 with the desire to go to the gym and I've made minor tweaks in my spending habits so I never felt the decrease in income. I actually feel wealthier with the change because I have the energy to make more things happen in my life that bring me happiness.

Good Luck!
